Can any one help . my old disco that I love very much has develop a issue . she won't rev past 2500 . Idles ok but started putting out white smoke have replaced lift pump have checked all pipes and am at a complete loss. I'm looking at replacing injector pump as this is really expensive can anybody give me an idea of something that may be a bit cheaper any help will be appreciation

Fuel filter, air filter, sedimenter. Bottle of injector cleaner wouldnt go amiss either. Does it use any coolant or oil?

leaky pipe from turbo to injector?
The one that pushes the diaphragm down to increase fuelling?

inlet pipes from turbo leaking?
Intercooler leaking?

Would be worth checking the lift pump is working correctly.

As not the first time it would be a dodgy new lift pump that has not fixed an issue.

Cheers

All seems fine its a real chin scratcher . going to do a bit more investigating . when I get some more time . thanx

OK, silly question time, if it is a manual throttle cable linkage, have you checked it has not unwound itdelf on the adjustor at the fuel pump end so you are only getting half throttle?

Cheers

Not a silly question at all . but no first thing I checked. Will not rev past 2500 even when pushed from the throttle body .

Was on my way home from work and over the next 3 days it started to deteriorate accompanied by a loud tapping from the injector pump changed lift pump .tapping disappeared. I haven't tried to tweak or play with the fuel pump at all. Although e r g valve has been blanked first problem with this vehicle in 6 years

Yes . took it off. connected two pipes and pumped diesel from 1 can 2 an other seems 2 Work fine. Got me perplexed. This one .

If it started after changing the lift pump are you sure you got the pump fitted correctly with the lever over the cam and the pipes the right way around? Might be a bit messy but you could try disconnecting the pipe at the FIP, (put it in a bag to catch the fuel) then give it a quick start. It should then pump fuel in to the bag proving the lever and pipes are fitted correctly and the pump works.

I made marks to show in let and out let on lift pump . have primed the filter and purged the injector pump and injectors of air . starting to think its the injector pump .

I read somewhere there are problems with some aftermarket mechanical puel pumps, cannot remember if petrol or Diesel, and if Diesel if non turbo or if direct injection.

Something about wrongly shaped follower

I heard the same thing. But when I built the engine I was very careful to get the right serial number pump . I'm going to check the fuel pipes again with a pressure test . if its sucking in air should be Abel to pick it up . this problem is really beginning to get on my pectorals lol

Have just fin checking the pipes . nothing . all pipe's are good . checked timing that's OK . new filters . new lift pump . still no joy . think starting to look more like the injector pump every day .

Think I have found the fault , diesel bug haven't seen this in a car before have seen it in large tanks its caused by water in the fuel and bacteria growing in it . and just found out tesco has bean find for water in their fuel . so going to drain the tank and run it for a bit . we shall sew what happens .
