lt seems there's no security nowadays in placing a deposit on a new vehicle.

l ordered a new D90 Commercial just after Christmas, with a £1,000 deposit.

First of all Land Rover deleted the D200 so l had to go for the D250 which cost £3,000 more.
lt's the same engine, in a different state of tune which the salesman admitted "costs no more to make"

Today l received an email from Guy Salmon stating that my order had gone up a further £3,250.

The base price of the Defender 90 Commercial (the cheapest variant you can get) is now £50,995.

l thought that when you ordered a vehicle the price was fixed at the time of order.

It seems that with a waiting list of 18 months Land Rover can do what they want, l don't suppose they care if some people cancel because there are so many more who won't, and they'll get their vehicles sooner.

I can imagine it being very annoying think the only way is getting an agreement in writing when the deposit was placed agreeing the price will stay as agreed. But like you said why would they.. Think with a price swinging nearly 6k from my original deposit price it would give me bit of a bad taste to fully enjoy the vehicle when it arrived with the whole experience !

Pretty much.

So price increases and spec changes. What if you don't agree to pay more? Do you get the deposit back.

Yes the deposit is refundable, it's just a shame as l want the vehicle, it would work well for my business being a commercial vehicle, but at nearly £55,000 it's a hell of a
lot of money, when l originally pushed the boat out and placed the order at £48,000

Are you going to sell your current 110 lightening

Yes if l did buy the new Defender then the 110 will be sold

The Hilux is a great vehicle but the load space would not be suitable for my needs

Should be a good chunk towards it. That 110 is in lovely nick and they’re still silly prices!

l've been offered £18,000 by a local Land Rover garage

The other option is to sell the Jimny as well. they are doing even better than Defenders price wise.
Selling both vehicles would raise almost all the money.
But l am not sure l want to pay nearly £55,000 for a vehicle, that was originally going to cost £48,000.

i think you’d get a lot more than that in private sale! Yes that’s a real pain.

Yes l've seen some crazy prices being asked for Defender TD5's but wonder if they actually sell at these prices.

l suppose l could try it at a few thousand more than the dealer offered and see if it sells.

You not tempted to swap to INEOS ?
The INEOS Grenadier 4X4 | INEOS Grenadier

You are right, they shouldnt be allowed to hike prices once a deposit has been taken. I would cry foul on that tbh.

That's exactly where I would be heading.
I am tempted, but shelling 60 plus k on a Petrol/Diesel may not be the best option in this day and age. But a lot of me also thinks get one now decent spec whilst you can and drive it forever.... but where will you be able to drive it in 20 years time..

l've looked at the Grenadier but that's got a lead in price of £50,000 and by the time you've added a few options such as a tow bar it can end up closer to £60,000

Not that it isn't worth it, but l just can't afford it.

l thought l may just stretch to the Defender at the original order price of £47,000

Have to say it was great to drive with the 3.0 250hp diesel, nice interior as well
