All,

I live in Suffox and would like to go to a shop that sells Land Rover bits off the shelf. Most of the places I see are on line and I cant get a feel for quality, ect. Is there anywhere around that you can walk throught an isle and fill your basket with bits for your project? The closest I got was an off roading show outside of Bury St Edmonds a while back where this company set up a tent full of off roading/aftermarket parts. It was awesome. I am still a newbe to the Land Rover world but I spend most of my free time giving my wife a headach talking about and working on them. As always any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Doug

I dont the area but you'll probably find that the answer is no. They might have shiny add-ons on show but probably wont have the room to have everything sitting on a shelf for people to look at before they buy. My best advise I can give you though is tell your wife to get used to you working on it, you've bought a defender!!:D
You'll soon get to know what manufacturers are better for different parts without getting touchy feely with them.

Nice idea but suspect the number of parts would be prohibitive for anyone to stock these days.

Get familiar with either micro cat or the parts list in the sticky, and search by part number rather than name

To be honest I suspect some of the guys can tell quality by looking at it - think I might struggle to tell one oil seal from another just by looking!

Most of the usual on line stores (paddocks, Rimmers, Craddocks, LRSeries and my own favourite LRDirect) stock a range of manufacturers from LR Original to china manufactured patent parts.

Go OEM where possible is good advice, and remember even Britpart stock OEM as well as other stuff not up to the job!

Gents,

Thanks for the info, you are probably right about the space and not having things out like a Walmart, I mean Halfords. I too cant tell the diference between a good and bad seal but the larger, stronger, heavier things like tub and tree sliders seem to range from 100-300 pounds so I would like to see them first. Getting used to the brands and products will be an experiance thing that will come with time. Thanks for the gouge on different between OEM, Genuine LR and Paten Parts. I hit a 12 pt buck in the states with my jeep and used Paten Parts to put it back together so I know they are not quite right. Again I thank you for your words and I hope to see you out and about.
