hi
hope someone can help just fitted a genuine Land Rover Freelander Quick Release towbar STC7996 with plug in electrics , followed instructions but there is no plug point on my freelander, I have as 1999 aniversary model
thanks in advance

the plug is behind the osr interior 1/4 panel you push the harness from outside under the car, you will see a gromit in the floor right by where the bumper electrics come out, all you need to do is release the 2 rear swivel clips from your 1/4 panel, pull the rear of the panel away and you should see a white connector plugged to the other side of the metal panel

hi
thanks for reply, I've done that there isn;t a plug there, no white one one ,there is a yellow one though any help apprieated
thanks in advance

doh, it must be there somewhere its in the harness as standard, have you felt around between the metal internal body panel and the exterior body panel,

if you look at where the 3 connectors are for the tailgate it should be inline with those but about 5 cm towards the front of the car

hi
thanks for prompt reply, I've had a look underneath can't see anything, in the instructions it shows it before where a load of wires go to earth (this is a white plug all the wires going to it are black , I assume these are all earth wires, its also bigger than the plug on the end of the towbar electrics )doesn't appear to be anything out of the loom only the feeds to the rear lights, any idea what the yellow plug is for further up the loom, it also said in the advert where i bought the towbar from that freelanders from 1999 on would need a different plug I assumed it must be something to do with the yellow plug
thanks in advance

i think that might mean the year of your caravan not the car there is a pre 99 and a post 99 kit i beleive.
if you can post a photo of the area where the plug should be i will see if i can see if the loom is ok or not

hi thanks for reply, I'm off on holiday for a week tomorrow I will post photo of the boot area when I'm back if thats ok

thanks for your help so far

Bit off topic, but they were selling STC7996s for £60 at Gaydon.

I guess with the new model coming out in the autumn, they figure it's time to sell 'em off cheap?

Hi,

mine was hard to find at first, tucked in behind the frame, behind the panel, and behind some tape!

problem I have on a new 2006 commercial freelander is that the plug fits, and updated the relay, one indicator works, but the rest goes potty!

Does anyone know if the wiring to this plug has been changed, and if so any ideas on the new parings?

Thanks
Jez

Does anyone know if the stc7996 Towbar kit will fit an 06 Freelander HSE Tdi ? In the message above Jez was having problems with the electrics, am I going to have the same problem ?
I also read on another site that after 03 the bumper must be shaved to fit this towbar, any truth behind this ?

Lots of questions, I'd love some answers !

Thanks for any advice offered.

Phil

Am I right in thinking that if I buy an third party towbar the electrics won't have the plug to connect into the wiring harness ?

here are pics of the witter towbar.
