Hi

Hi The Defender belongs to my daughter, yes everyone has commented a fortunate girl. I am on my 3rd Land Rover Discovery Sport and 2 previous RR sports. This has probably been asked before so please forgive any repitition.
Are there drivers side seat runners that will offset the seat slightly away from the drivers door? The seat is fine for back and forward adjustment and as some have commented in the past it is best to drive with the drivers window open!!!! a bit much during winter in Scotland.
Any advice would be most welcome
 
It’s not that bad lol, just takes time to get used to!

How big are you lol, I am 6ft 3 and 100kg and I can drive it fine!

You could always make your own out of some box section.

It would be quite straight forward to reposition the current seat runners IMO, just depends how confident you are.

Could you give us a hint as to why? There may be a different solution , depending on the cause.

Thanks for your replies. Essentially the seat is too close to the drivers side window and would benifit from moving to the centre of the vehicle. If this is not possible to do with some type of commercially available offset seat runners then we will have to get used to the driving position.

Got to agree with @flat . I've seen rather big guys (and some massive WRAC/RLC girls) ,wearing full kit, and still be able to drive without issue. Still , must be something amiss, or you wouldn't be asking.. Although if too difficult to drive with the seat where it is, I'm not sure why anyone suggested opening a window. That would only help the shoulders or head o_O
Hope you find a solution.

P.s if you move the seat to the centre of the vehicle, won't you have to move steering and pedals too?

Now i'm gonna say this in the most uninsulting way i possibly can..

Is your Daughter a big lass?

Because i have known many 6ft plus men 300lbs+ and women drive defenders and indeed any LR without much issue..

You could reposition the seat runners but the pedals will be offset and probably a pain to operate..

Or she could get a car more suited to her build.
 
Was just thinking. Could you take the cubby box out and put in a bigger seat. Similar to photo below but with one big seat, in place of driver and middle seat rather than 3 seats?

Only needs a couple of inches, just means you can sit with a straight spine, and preserve your elbow . Lol
 
LOL no she is not "huge lass" and I can sympathise with her plight. Coming out of our drive and turning immediately right you have to slow the car down to feed the wheel throught your hands. Any faster and you bang ones elbow against the drivers door.
It all started when a friend has really pimped up the last of the production line Defenders and I asked the question regarding the driving position. He has changed out the seats for something really fancy and this moved his position left but still retained the storage box. He was convinced that there were offset seat runners that could be purchased to aleviate this problem of banging elbow, hence when the window is open the elbow can move back and froward. Clearly this is not the case and I have to admit defeat. I do not want to fabricate any runners as the car is only 30k miles and we would wish to maintain its originality.

So why not slow the vehicle down. I don't wish to sound rude and I'm sure she does have the issue. Yet 28 years of Defenders*, in various guises and at 6' tall, I have only bounced my elbows off the glass in extreme circumstances. I don't know about the others but you have me totally bemused, as to why she is having this issue, just turning at a corner. Maybe she needs to change the positioning of her elbows,( I know mine go down rather than out), when feeding the wheel through her hands

*SeriesIII before that.

Yeah agreed, even bouncing all over the place off road I haven’t hit my elbow turning left or right....

How close does she sit to the steering wheel? Does she have to sit all the way forward on the seat rails to operate the pedals or is the seat all the way back on the seat rails?

Any chance you could look at the seat or something as it could be damaged or bent in some way I suppose.

Does she have power steering?
I occasionally clout my arm on the window sill if I am turning hard, it hits the funny bone and bloody hurts!
This is probably caused by the fact I don't have power steering as I have one of the first 110s.
I am told that back then PAS was considered an optional luxury and people rarely opted for it!
I've not done it in a while, I have learnt to drive in a way that I never have to turn on the spot!
I don't think opening the window would help much. I have PAS on my list of things to add which should help :)
