First time I've seen the prototype actually move.
Not sure about all that HUD style GUI stuff in the second part - looks like someones just been messing about and its got out of hand - also according to that it will wade just short of 1m, pretty impressive if thats the case - especially with all that electrikery,

Defender DC100 Off Road compilation, first video by Land Rover (full version) - YouTube

:crazy_driver:

Personally I don't like it, it doesn't look very practical and doesn't leave much scope for a long wheel base.

I know its still a concept, but manufactures don't normally actually do video shoots with concepts do they?

Also I apologise if this video has been posted before.

blech looks like an evoque with the roof chopped off

It will look good with 3 or 4 sheep in the back but they will need grooming first. Its a horrible vehicle.

Pile of **** and embarrassing to suggest a deffender replacement

I wasn't suggesting it!

There is only one Defender, it's iconic, dependable and not complicated. Derived from Series'. Everything it should be.

Having all these gimmics takes everything away from the Defender that makes it what it is!

I think Land Rover are going to struggle replacing the defender and keeping their current defender customers. The reason it's being stopped is because of new European safety and emmisions restrictions, so building a simple, reliable, robust 4x4 along with strict emissions limits just don't go together.
The brand has moved on though and they make more money out of selling toff roaders nowadays so I wouldn't be surprised if they just can it all together, or go for an "urban" off roader such as the DC100

Sadly I think the defender will die.

The name might live on, but it will be on something that's nothing like the defender as we know it.

Or course I hope I'm completely wrong on this.

So.... the terrain response has both sonar (for wading) and lidar (laser radar or some such) for telling you which big rocks to avoid?? WOW! :p

It's a fair bit smaller than the current 'fender, not sure about 4 sheep in the back...

Emissions aren't really the problem. Re-engining the beast (as has been done a few times) can usually solve that.

Safety regs are the problem for the Defender. The EU, US and Asian markets (think India and China as well as ASEAN) are working on harmonising vehicle standards to "keep manufacturers' costs down" so even if LR were willing to sacrifice their whole UK/EU sales for the Defender, they'd still have to replace it.

At least it should be good to go in the US again, if they don't dream up another arbitrary standard to keep out foreign vehicles.

I find out which one is the earth
