I own a 1989 90, which has in the past been fitted with rear discs. I recently serviced the rear calipers and found them a tad to shabby etc ( new pads won't be able to be fitted because of rusted pistons etc ). So I will be nipping over to LR in Liverpool to buy new calipers/pads etc.......but when M.O.T'd yesterday was told rear discs are a tad shoddy ( just an advisory ) as well. So, I have decided to replace the solid discs as well ( makes sense ). Now I have done the front end a couple of years ago but have never replaced discs on the rear. Have tried a search but cannot find any links as to what parts I will need when I fit the discs...do they just bolt on or will I need other parts to do the job. Only asking as I have a bad back and just want to get the job done in one go and also to keep my landy on the road. I'm assuming they simply just slide and bolt on!
Any advice or links would be really appreciated. Calipers are lockhead 3242 292C ( SMC500240 ) and I believe the axle is off a classic range rover but not 100% sure.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Second pic just shows the spacer I fitted a few years ago.

Thank you for those ( actually had them lurking on my hard drive !! ).... mine is obviously a later axle with the solid brake discs...just need to know if it is a simple bolt on jobbie ( usually are ) or do I have to remove any other gubbins and may need paper gaskets etc.

Just have to take off the caliper then the hub. On the back of the hub you will see the five bolts holding on the disc. Put the whole lot in the vice and undo the bolts and then it usually takes a good few smacks with a hammer to separate the discs

If you don't have a big enough vice, drop the whole unit onto a wheel/tyre on the floor and stand on the tyre as you undo the bolts.

Take care to clean the caliper retaining bolts and get the socket all the way onto them, if the heads get damaged it becomes a pig of a job to remove the calipers.

May be handy to have a new seal for the back of the hub (the ones that hold the rear bearing in) in case the old one gets damaged, also get new bolts for disc/calipers and a tab washer for the wheel bearing adjustment nuts.

Thanks guy's all greatly appreciated. So I need spare ( X 2 ) large outer hub bearing nuts in case of damage; ( 10X ) disc mounting bolts; perhaps ( X2 ) inner oil seals and ( X2 ) paper halfshaft flange gaskets? Bearings are fine etc and will be getting new calpiers/correct caliper mounting bolts etc etc when I go for the job lot. Is that more or less it ( have the grease ) ?

Just a small point, the part number you have listed on post #1 is iirc only for one side, just to avoid you buying two of the same side.

Cheers

Ouch, hate to think what LR prices are for brake calipers.............:eek:.

I fitted two this week (allmakes boxed) , Happy they were only 63 delivered.

Cheers

£36 each so happy days :) It's a 30 minute drive over there and they are very helpful...I'll probably take one hub/disc with me just to make sure I get the right disc/bearings ( if needed ) etc. Hands on :)

If you have the 'double nut' type of bearing adjusters then it is the separate tab washers you need, you shouldn't need the nuts unless someone has damaged them in the past

Nowadays, even on a Yorkshiremans budget, I sometimes fit new stub axle washers, No 13 on @Kwakerman s drawing. But that's mostly for when a bearing has collapsed and 'wobbled' thus scoring up the washer, so probably not necessary in this instance. Worth having as running spares though, especially if you're ordering a lot of stuff anyway.

Other thing I do nowadays is not use the paper gaskets for half shafts, but use a decent smear of waterproof grease, which I always carry with my spares too. If you like the paper washers, I'd recommend a very thin smear of waterproof grease each side of them .. :)
