That is a result - nothing wrong with a well maintained 19j, but the TDi is a better engine in many ways.
 
Hopefully get the Land Rover back by the end of this week. With a steep bill unfortunately as the seller is now refusing to help and with a little research I have found out he is a dealer feining to be a private seller. We live and learn I guess. Although I think I get Land Rover blindness and don't see the faults!

Dealers sometimes sell stuff on as private to remove any comeback a commercial seller would be responsible for. I think they can be reported for it if it's seen they're doing it often.
 
I think it is more a case this guy deals cars on the side and feels that covers him as being a private seller. My research shows he is a bit of a rogue with history and I will do that research before buying next time.
I went to the garage to see progress earlier and pick up a courtesy car. The footwells need welding. I missed the holes under the carpet and the filler!
 
Sounds like you got done. I got exactly the same with mine and I still have it. You'll soon have it how you want it. It's a steep learning curve
 
I have got some money off the "private seller" to help with repairs. Took a bit of persuasion and research on who he was but was agreeable in the end, so good result and I enjoying using the Mazda courtesy car whilst the engine is being changed!
 
Most likely the injector pipe or another pipe has developed a fracture. Nothing to do with the seller as it can just happen, after all its almost 30 years old and the vibrations over the years can fatigue the pipes. Happened to me last month in my 12j
 
Yes I don't blame the seller for the engine failure. I do blame them for the other incorrect descriptions and the fact that they were pretending to be a private seller. I have received the registration document and they were never the registered owner like they pretended to me. As I said earlier a bit of a rogue. I know that the point of failure of the engine cannot be predicted but it certainly hasn't been maintened well as I was assured.
 
iIRC in the eyes of the law and more importantly the tax man its something 3 or 4 cars per year?

Good policy when buying things wherever, believe NONE of what you hear and HALF of what you see, unless of course you are watching a youtube video, maybe believe 5% of what that shows you!
 
I look forward to sharing this vehicle with the forum once it is actually on the road! Both footwells are shot and mainly filler painted over with hammerite. The front crossmember has is held together with expanding foam. Supposedly welded for the last MOT!
