Hi All

Went on some lanes last weekend and got quite muddy, noticed on the way home my battery voltage was only 12.5 volts which is another alternator claimed by the lanes.

collected a brand new alternator and fitted it on, connected all three wires to the correct terminals and gave it a test. started the engine up, gave it a few revs, and the voltage went to 13 point something volts for a split second, then straight back to 12 point something. then i noticed that the battery warning light does not come on at all, not even with just the ignition on.

me and my friends have tried numerous methods and we're all confused, i sent back the alternator thinking it was duff and bought a new one from JohnCraddock, still the same.

if anyone has any methods we could try, to get my battery to charge, it would be great!

I think your warning bulb needs to be working or the alty doesn't get excited. Check the bulb and the wiring to it.

Dash bulb needs to work
The old alt will most liley just need a new brush box, tenner off of ebay, carry a spare easy to change in the field.

Okay so I’ve ran the charge light wire that goes into the alternator to earth and the battery light came on, which tells me the bulb has not gone

Any ideas?

Sounds like your exciter isn't connected properly ... that's the thin white, white/red, brown/yellow or yellow, going onto a 6.3mm spade connector.
You might even have to run another bit of wire through.
Make sure that both parts are spotlessly clean or your exciter may not work!
Once you have connected up, clart the connection with vaseline ... a man's bestest friend ;);)
