Hi
Can some one shed some light on the matter im currently looking to replace my starter i have a 1988 defender 90 TD 2.5 i have rang around for a new one and the cheapest quote has been £130 but i have read that a discovery 200tdi starter will fit which is only £75.00? can anyone shed some light on the issue and let me know if any other starter fits?? i almost got stung with my alternator last week was quoted £170 for a new one and when i looked i found out it was the exact same one as a metro 1.3 and cost me £38.00 so i know there are some people out there trying to make a quick buck!!!

shame coz i got an old one but not sure of condition so probly int worth paying postage just in case - but them ones me n Ratty found are under £100 (free P&P so order all the bits you need from em at the same time)

thanks guys but there is one on fleabay for £60 but its for a disco 200tdi also my mate has 300tdi starter in is shed so just wanted to see if they were the same? lol

i got a feeling the original TD one is a bit smaller as the alternator gets in the way of the one off the 200? Can someone verify this - just rings a bell from a recent fred!

well, if it helps, a 300TDi tarter fits the NA flywheel housing, and so also the turbo housing. Ive got one on my 300, with an NA flywheel housing on it.

And yes they are smaller.

yes boydy your right i just fitted the 300tdi motor on mine went straight on and was twice as small as my old lump of a unit and now its loads easier to get to and now i can get to all the bolts if i need to take it off again. simple when you know how lol
