so ur not tight then just careful , ;):p

Neither. I just don't like wasting money.

I paid £2700 for my Ninety, been good since 2008. I spent £1200 on my Mondeo, top of the range, done over 20k miles in it already. I spent £1200 on my D2 V8 Auto, it did me well for 3 years and then I sold it.

Why spend more?

wow 40mpg is great! my 1.3 Toyota Yaris that i have at the moment gets about 45, so a freelander would be perfect really

driving them are very car like , u can also fit a synergy tuning box to them and will transform the engine, helps with flat spots etc, blanking egr valves

have a look in the freelander section , plenty of information and will pick up a lot of knowledge

remind me never to haggle with u, lol

know what u mean and things like how much work u can do urself, ie being able to knock the price down as u know u can fix it yourself , how many times have u turned up to look at a landy and the seller fills u with a lot of bull****

Thank you both! I'll definitely have a look in the freelander section! Just found insurance is dead cheap, even for me with only 1 year ncd!

glad it was of some use to u

indeed the ins is a lot cheaper than a D3 , lol

when ur ready if u ask on here , hopefully someone who has or does own a freelander will come with u to check over a purchase for u

please let us know how u get on

Will do! annoying I've got a bit more saving to do, but should get one by January if all goes to plan!

I don't listen..
I look at the vehicle. I say what it's value to me is.

And if they don't want to take that offer, I walk away and look at another.:)

yep, also walked away from a few , either with it being a pile of junk or there asking silly money

did once refuse to test drive one landy as none of the lights worked and didn’t wish to get nicked for it and felt if he couldn’t be bothered to have checked the basics i’m going to walk away

great point @Turboman makes regarding january, generally u will find 4x4s are normally more expensive in the winter season

good luck and at least with a few months of saving it will give u chance to read up abit more about freelanders

haha that's a good point! I'll need the time to read up more, having previously only really read up on D2's and freelander 2's

freelander 2s are also a nice

always good to have a test drive with the landies ur interested in, so at least u know what ones u like

first thing is to do a full Hpi check and mot history on any landies ur interested in, but please ask away and plenty of us here to advise u if ur unsure

I'll definitely try and test drive all 4 models if possible, hopefully that may help a bit!

Thank you, I'll remember that! :)

I wonder what the price difference in running costs + insurance will be for an 18 year old on a yaris compared to a Freelander 1. While the Freelander 2 is the bestist vehicle of them all, and the Freelander 1 coming very close second... yer going to be chucking a lot of money at insurance companies if yer haven't got much driving eggperience. Waiting a few years will reduce the insurance costs. Not wanting to put yer oft yer first Freelander but paying heaps of money to insurance companies is annoying.

I get what you mean and I know insurance won't be the cheapest, but I'm prepared to pay it, and actually a freelander 1 isn't much more than what i currently pay!

Hi again everyone!

The time has come and all being well I'll be looking to test drive and hopefully buy one of a few Landy's I've picked out! I've found a fair few Freelander 2's, but what's caught my eye is a 1997 defender 90 300TDI with just over 110k on the clock and a FSH. Any advise as to whether one of these would be a good daily driver? I understand the potential problems with rust etc, and I'm not expecting anything to be perfect, but then again I hear they are meant to be relatively easy to work on and fairly reliable if well-maintained. Also any idea on what MPG to roughly expect? Daily commute is country lanes averaging 50mph.

Any advice would be great!

H.

300 TDi are a good vehicle, and should be reliable if it is a good one. It will be more expensive to run than a Freelander, though.

Can you afford to insure it?

Mileage will vary widely depending on driving technique. Anywhere from 20mpg to over 40 at a guess.

Somehow insurance is actually really cheap for me! :D

That's a good point actually. Thanks!

And study the docs, and the vehicle carefully, and carry out all necessary internet checks. Defenders are prone to being nicked, or assembled using stolen parts.
