Total loss of all Electrics to day while driving home including steering, every warning light I think must have come on just before. Alternator must be the culprit Surly.

Let’s hope so, or battery, but perhaps you should see if the crankshaft will rotate
If it was the Diesel Engine I would of been very worried, it did start on a boost , what concerns me though is it’s been starting fine, no signs of the battery low.

How old is battery, after 2-3 years they are on borrowed time, and can fail almost instantly

Not sure how old the battery is I have only owned this one about 3 months, I did get to speak to the Indy garage yesterday where it was taken to, they said looks like the Alternator has packed up and the battery is completely drained, here comes another big bill.

Yes Alternator and battery packed up, both replaced now and all good again, obviously I am not praying enough to the Land Rover Gods before pressing that start button.

Years ago it wasn't uncommon to have useful things like a volt meter in the dash :( my old landy has an ammeter

After my alternator started being difficult in my series, I bought a cheapo digital volt meter that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket. It even has a couple of usb ports, less than a tenner.
