Evening guys . Right so I've acquired another landrover . It's an l405 3.0 on a 2015 plate.

Bought the car with a start stop not functioning message on dash . So tested the aux battery and was flat as a fart. So stuck a new one on and message went away. When I press button it turns on and says it's active . However it never turns off . I've tried all the usuall like nit using the aircon etc etc as I've read it can stop it working etc. Anyways here's the weird bit ! Got a puncture today and stuck the spare wheel on... driving with that on ...the start stop started working !
As a joke I said must have knocked something and then hoped when I put the proper wheel back in it would stay working ... long story short. The weird **** happened!
Soon as the proper size wheels back on it stopped working ! 😂😂 any ideas apart from limping round on a spare wheel ? 😂😂

The aux. battery isn't the one the autostop uses, it only uses the starter battery. The aux. battery is there to supply 'voltage sensitive' circuits during cranking, it is monitored for condition, but so is the starter battery. I have no idea why changing wheels had a bearing upon autostop working - it shouldn't, unless as you say, the battery monitor wiring is damaged / dislodged and has been affected by the wheelchange. Maybe worth getting the BMS' checked for fault codes (it will register if there have been any failures in monitoring) and a reset done if not already.

This might help determine if the behaviour is due to something other than (either) battery condition:-
VEHICLES WITH AUTO STOP/START SYSTEM
During a drive cycle, with the Auto stop/start system enabled and the TCS
in DRIVE ('D') or SPORT ('S'), the ECM performs an auto stop when one of
the following occurs:

The vehicle stops from a speed greater than 4 km/h (2.5 mph) and
sufficient brake pressure is applied to the brake pedal to ensure the
vehicle is stationary
The vehicle is stationary and 'N' is selected on the TCS.

NOTE:

The green Auto stop/start warning indicator in the IC illuminates to advise
that the engine has shut down. Other warning indicators normally
associated with an engine shut down, for example the ignition and low oil
pressure warning indicators, are suppressed so will not illuminate during an
auto stop.

During an auto stop, the ECM operates the fuel pressure control valve to

On a gradient an auto stop will only occur if the driver applies a
minimum of 7 bar (101.5 lbf/in²)+ / - 3 bar (43.5 lbf/in²) brake pressure
and will not occur at all on gradients about in excess of 1 in 4.34
(23%).

maintain a fuel rail pressure of 250 bar (3625 lbf/in²), instead of releasing the
fuel pressure as normally occurs at engine shut down. This ensures there is
adequate fuel volume and pressure for an instant auto restart.

The following conditions will prevent an auto stop:

A steering wheel paddle switch has been used to select a gear
(transmission Commandshift mode)
The ambient air temperature is outside the range of 2 to 40 °C (36 to 104
°F)
The ambient air pressure is below 720 hPa
The engine coolant temperature is outside the range of 20 to 107 °C (68
to 224 °F)
Brake vacuum is less than the threshold value
The hood is open
The driver door is open
The driver seatbelt is not fastened
High demand from the climate control system requires the engine to be
running, for example windshield demist selected
The battery charge is low
A Terrain Response® special program is active
Hill descent control is active
The level in the fuel tank is too low (approximately 6 liters remaining in
tank)
Active regeneration of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is required or in
progress
Auto stop/start system is disabled using the Auto stop/start switch.

While the vehicle is stationary, if a condition that prevented an auto stop is
removed the ECM automatically performs an auto stop.

The ECM automatically restarts the engine when one of the following
occurs:

The brake pedal is released with 'D' or 'S' selected on the TCS.
The accelerator pedal is pressed
A paddle switch is used to select a gear
REVERSE ('R') is selected on the TCS
Climate control system demand increases
The vehicle speed exceeds approximately 1 km/h (0.5 mph)
The battery charge becomes low
Brake vacuum reduces below the threshold value
Auto stop/start system is disabled using the Auto stop/start switch.

Good luck with getting it to work. I had to replace (and program) both batteries to get mine to work even though the main battery was OK. It works all the time now and is a PITA. First thing I do is switch it off.....when I remember

You might have cracked it here. It's low on. Fuel. I'll go fill her up

If the battery monitor was any good, it would have figured out the battery was new !!

They do, but it takes time - there is a charge / discharge sequence that runs every 40 days (from memory), it's reasonably transparent but can give the impression there is a charging problem if you happen to take a voltage reading during the discharge phase.

Just wondering , does the stop / start wear the starter out prematurely ,
Is it designed to save fuel / cut pollution,
Will the engine oil have enough time to get around the bearings as soon as i hit the throttle and it pulls away under load straight away?
I don`t like it, when i need a quick start on a roundabout ,there is always a pause while it gets going
I try to remember to turn it off !

The starter will be doing more work, but equally will be a more robust version to cope with it. The oil will already be where it needs to be, it just needs pressure from the pump - oilways do not completely empty once the engine stops (which is why diesel engine oil looks dirty a few minutes after its been changed.) and oil pressure drops off slowly, so there will always be lubrication of moving parts.
Autostop is a way of achieving emission goals, its of no benefit to you or the vehicle.
There is a way of changing the default behaviour, but that would invalidate the vehicles type approval so I can't advise you to get the software modified...

OK , just wondering again, sorry,
What other manufactures and models use the SD 6 Disco /3.00 - V6 engine/ 2000.?
Just wondering to see if there is as much winging on there or is it just LR bashing !

Not bashing, might be bit of mickey and "p" taking plenty of info and help if the answer is known but maybe better to ask disco stuff on the disco section.
