So hi all I am new to the forum and range rover ownership

Issue
car won't start, or will crankfor over 45 seconds before firing

Story so far
I brought the range rover of a lady who had it sitting for over 2 years.
It had a battery issue( think its sat nave, has now been disconnected)

The. Ar started and ran lovely, the car want to rug mot with just a cople of bushes and brake lines that needed changing.

The car then started to run slightly lumpy., so I changed the fuel filter , filled the tank half way with fuel and deisel cleaner and though it would be fine.

I drove it with no issue, parked up outside my house , next day would not start.,

After cha gin the battery out again for a new unit, it will start under xetreame cranking occasionally.

I have changed
Fuel filter
Fuel pump (under car)
Battery

I have hooked it up to a souls snap on machine and it come up with "low fuel rail pressure under cranking"

Please can anyone help

Thanks

I can't help but there are people on here that can, first you should give details as to the car, year, model etc

Sounds like one of the fuel pumps has failed

I have never, or wanted to put fuel cleaner in my tank !

Sorry

It's a 2002 td6 l322
Vogue

I have changed one fuel pump under the car
I have been told it may be an injector where it has pulled up old deisel, to me that sounds plausible , but don't want to spend loads on injectors if its a pump!

Man thanks

I'm with hippo, sound like the lift pump is tired.

If an injector was fouled, it would still start reasonably ok but run lumpy.

Glow plugs might be tired too...but my thoughts are with Hippo and the in tank pump.

Do a search on here, a member replaced his in tank pump using one from a diesel X5....in a similar vain to how i did my petrol version.

Could be injectors leaking back too much fuel,do a leak test on them, can buy kits of eBay or cheap.

If it stood for 2 years, my bet would be baterial growth in the fuel tank blocking fuel lines, injectors etc.

Thanks guys

If the tank pump or the injectors where packing up, would it bring up any fault codes?

Also in response to Build up in lines and tank. The car started and ran and I ran it through about 1/4 tank of fuel before it packed up

Thanks Adam

If injectors are leaking back too much fuel, the code it brings up is low fuel pressure while cranking, try spraying a little wd40 into the air intake at filter while someone is turning it over ,this should get it started, you can test the injectors yourself with a leak test kit, make sure battery is good ,slow turning over will not build up enough pressure for it to start, listen for both electric pumps working ,one is underneath rear seat on drivers side, turn ignition on and listen for it working, same with one underneath the car on passenger side behind the cover.one injector leaking back too much fuel will cause a non start.

That's typical of bacterial slime being sucked into the system and blocking it. Have you checked the filter. for contamination?

Thanks
All

The fault cod is low pressure under ranking, so I think it may be a leaky injector

I will tether injectors on Saturday as I have a test kit at work

Many thanks all

I will keep you updated
