Hi All,

I have just gone from Defender to Range rover and its been an interesting transition. i think i miss the simple life. Right, ill get started.
im just going to list all the faults that ive experienced since buying the car a month ago underneath and hopefully someone will just say,'oh, just check this relay' and it will all magically start to work again.......:)

• MAY ALL BE RELATED:
• central locking not kicking in after 5mpph
• front and rear electric heated windows not working
• heated steering wheel not working
• key difficult to get in ignition
• 'key in ignition' alarm not coming on when door open
• mirrors not dipping any more in reverse
• key locked into ignition sounds not happening any more
• air suspension inactive/front sensor fault maybe?
• HDC inactive, this couoples with the suspension fault it seems...
• memory button not illuminating and cant set new memory on seat but all controls function perfectly....
• steering heavy last night, lights as a feather this morning
• new this morning - leak onto passenger carpet, seems to be coming down the roof, making the glove box ever so slightly damp…. Which near the electrics is not good.

• AND JUST FOR GOOD MEASURE:
• drivers heated seat not working
• wiper blade not working at max speed just regular, rain sensor seems a bit crap
• cd mag not ejecting
• sat nav dead
• drivers side bulb/ glove box/boot bulb gone

Having said all that, it does go forwards and backwards, left and right and stops.... so its not all bad.

if anyone can pin point whats going on here, please let me know as it seems something is breaking daily now!
Thanks in advance,

Mark

• MAY ALL BE RELATED:
• central locking not kicking in after 5mpph - This is an Option in the BCU
• front and rear electric heated windows not working - Elements or fuse blown
• heated steering wheel not working - Heating element in the wheel burnt out (common fault)
• key difficult to get in ignition
• 'key in ignition' alarm not coming on when door open - Mine doesn't do that, it is a setting in the BCU I believe.
• mirrors not dipping any more in reverse - this only happens when the Wing Mirror selector switch is selected to Drivers Mirror, I have mine set permentantly to passangers to prevent the dip as it annoys me. This is also a setting in the BCU so check it isn't corrupted.
• key locked into ignition sounds not happening any more - Mine doesn't do this either, another BCU setting I believe....check BCU for corruption.
• air suspension inactive/front sensor fault maybe? - If the battery has been off or run low, you'll need to reset the Steering Angle Sensor by turning lock to lock and pausing as you reach each lock for a couple of seconds than back to centre, this should cancel the EAS and HDC messages. if this doesn't cure it, diagnostics.
• HDC inactive, this couoples with the suspension fault it seems... as above
• memory button not illuminating and cant set new memory on seat but all controls function perfectly.... possible BCU or Seat Module fault - Diagnostics required
• steering heavy last night, lights as a feather this morning - possible servotronic valve issue or a slipping ancillary drive belt, check belt tension and for signs of power steering fluid leaks.
• new this morning - leak onto passenger carpet, seems to be coming down the roof, making the glove box ever so slightly damp…. Which near the electrics is not good. - sort as priority.

• AND JUST FOR GOOD MEASURE:
• drivers heated seat not working - Elements have been known to break easily.
• wiper blade not working at max speed just regular, rain sensor seems a bit crap - Rain Sensor is a bit naff I have to say, so I don't bother to use it....as for max speed, not sure, that is (like most things) BCU controlled I believe.
• cd mag not ejecting - common issue, the CD unit is sh!te I fixed mine by taking the front cover off and sliding the locking mechanisum to release the magazine...even after doing that, the CD unit still doesn't work, so I ignore it!
• sat nav dead - Check for moisture in the rear quarter, water ingress can kill all the sensitive components in there...common issue, LR resolve was a plastic bag!
• drivers side bulb/ glove box/boot bulb gone - Replace!

Having said all that, it does go forwards and backwards, left and right and stops.... so its not all bad.

if anyone can pin point whats going on here, please let me know as it seems something is breaking daily now!
Thanks in advance,

Mark
If these items were working and now they are not, suspect BCU due to your damp passanger side issue. Moisture in the BCU will wreck havoc.

If they weren't working previously, then there are a few things that do fail, like the front heated screen fails, and the Wheel heater is known to bust out too.

I have indicated in red the more common causes for if they were working previously.....if they have all of sudden just stopped, definatly get your BCU on diagnostics...

In any case Diagnostics will help see if there is any reason for your faults.

also make sure the battery is in tip top condition , hdc inactive on start up is usually a warning of battery voltage is low even though the car will start
for air suspension inoperative turn the steering from lock to lock and this should go
but do make sure the battery is 100% these l322s need a brimmng battery as a failing one can contribute to a host of electrical faults so before throwing money at it battery first im not saying this your problem but maybe
a mate of mine had a list of electrical faults fitted a new battery and they all went away this was on an 04 diesel ;)

you wont stand a chance with an L322 without some sort of diagnostic kit, unless you live next door to a main dealer that it's owned by your best friend.

Even with the diagnostic kit, it will still be a bumpy ride, i am still ironing out my faults and i am about 5 months in and its almost a new one every week.
i have the allcomms from rsw solutions as do a few others on here, but there are quite a few others.

i think the allcoms is a brilliant bit of kit

good luck:)

Wow,

thanks for all the info. theres a lot to digest and it seems i need to get the diagnostic kit. Thanks again, ill update with some news on fixes.

just checked the relevant fuses and they all seem fine. . . which is sort of a shame.

i had a RR classic and the sunroof leaked into the car due to blocked drainage holes.... does the L322 do the same? confused by this leak.

The sunroof leaks and there is also a common leak into the rear quarter that soaks the electronics.
You can't use any old OBD diagnostics you need LR specific. Allcomms is the cheapest www.rswsolutions.com and pretty effective, Faultmate MSV 2 is the best www.blackbox-solutions.com but expensive.

For diagnostics there is also the iidtool from gap-diagnostics.com.this is a good bit of kit,i have it for my td6,the only down side is its vin locked to 1 car.

it is great and I did look into it, but if your pixel display is dicky or faulty...you are kinda stuck....

Hi Guys,
thanks for all the info, im on a steep learning curve.
An update -
i manages to source the leak to a blocked passanger side drain hole from the sunroof. i managed after alot of mucking about to unblock it by sticking a biro tube acting as a tube down the top hole, sealed with blue tac and attached it toa bicycle pump. A few good hard pumps and it cleared it! flushed it with a kettle full of ht water so hopefully now ill have a dry iterior and the electrics should stop going mad.
the rear quarter seems to have been fixed with a plastic lining as the sat nav was caput when i bought it. i just use my phone for sat nav so not bothered.
next - diagnosis.....

i just noticed that when i lock it the indicators dont flash.... sure they used to..... ]
oh and the backlight for the upper part of the pixel display is down, the pixels are all ok and the lower fault section has a backlight, just not at the top section......another one to the list.

ill post again with remedies to faults soon.

Test your battery, it might be fine.

You can also test for what is draining the battery with some know how :)

+1 to all the above....

Test first and see if you can pick out the common drains - FSR, Headlamp WIpers, Alternator Rectifier Pack, Water Leak in boot etc

Saint, you have been very helpful the last few days,

the washers are not working - just discovered, on the headlamps, or the wipers but thats not surprising i will remove fuse 28 to save the hassle of another dead batter just in case till i get the faults cleared.

just an update - the 'preheater' sign came on this morning but the car started absolutely fine....
i jumped the car yesterday an took it for a run. it is now my suspicion that the fact that the 'brain' of the car has gone loopy, it is causing it to do all sorts of strange things, maybe due to the water ingress which is now sorted. i will reset all faults at a garage and check the amps charge 14.4 i believe, and then post back with any news.
my suspicions is though, that the car is just a little mad and needs to be put in a straight jacket.

Quick update,

During a good hail storm whilst on the motor way, the car locked itself and almost all the faults just went away!?
here is the list of what now works that didnt before::eek:

• central locking not kicking in after 5mpph
• front and rear electric heated windows not working
• key difficult to get in ignition
• lock the indicators dont flash.... sure they used to.....
• 'key in ignition' alarm not coming on when door open
• mirrors not dipping any more in reverse
• key locked into ignition sounds not happening any more
• air suspension inactive/front sensor fault maybe? Does work sometimes!?
• HDC inactive, this couples with the suspension fault it seems...
• memory button not illuminating and cant set new memory on seat but all controls function perfectly...

I presume that since the water ingress has now dried out, the car has decided to fix itself.

Sorry this post has no sensible 'fix' ideas but it just goes to show, modern cars and electrics are not straight forward. i suppose my only tip to conclude would be to get a diagnostics bit of kit before posting electrical faults.

Thanks for all the help guys.

hi all posted this prob in what did you do today slot. anyway had to get a jump start saturday unexplained battery drain car started no probs battery fully charged but central locking not working as is interior lights checked all fuses tried resetting key still no joy cant even lock her with door key left battery disconected overnight still no joy changed battery in key fob no joy any suggestions ? please

have you got any diagnostics kit like an all comms, without mine it would have cost me even more of a fortune than it has already. at the very least diagnostic kit gives you a hint of where to start looking
