It's happened again, I been asked by a nephew Paul for the third time in the last twelve years what do you think on this L322 Range Rover. Now I've run out of reasons for not owning one, not that I know any thing about them, I never had the need for one. Anyway, it's a diesel, expensive to purchase and expensive to maintain, then add a list of what breaks on them, and unless you can do a bit of DIY etc etc, which the Paul doesn't... he pays people.

Now Paul has two youngsters and a mortgage, the ownership of RR still hasn't gone away, although he has now lowered his expectations... So let him have one. :)

So this link had been sent to me of a RR and to be fair the vehicle looks pretty good in the photos and with a low mileage but it's had three MOT failures , in my opinion just the usual stuff I suspect.

I only hope he doesn't want me to tag along if he goes for a look see :( fortunately he lives 110 miles away.

87K miles, just coming up to gearbox failure time:rolleyes:

3.0L 87k miles no thanks:( sorry;)

tell him save some more pennies and not just jump in. In a few months he can get a 4.4 TDV8:).
There will be plenty of cheaper cars going soon. I know it’s a bit harsh but true

Are failed turbo's cheaper than a gearbox?

So what would a replacement gear all inclusive cost ? £4000 + labour then VAT is my guess, perhaps that why a few in the scrappy.

I dont what it is about the L322, but they dont age well and look tired very quickly.
Mate had an 09 plate one, looked old well before its time, especially any of the colour coded bits, interior was not to good either, had about 90k on the clock.

Take Marjons advice and play the waiting game, at least for this year.

A bit like Jags in the 90s then.

That sounds like a lot, but have not looked. It’s the labour cost that can mount up so I guess a pair of turbos for £1500 would be pretty good then:D

Thank you, I expect the gear box has an ECU and full of wizard wizardry :(
Yes, electronic control, but what is worse is that critical and non critical systems are linked on a common data bus, so a minor failure can knock everything out. They rust like mad too.

Gearbox recon and TC is about £1500 fitted ncluding the upgraded valve blocks thingies.

Don't see anything to indicate SE spec, I know it's just a badge but SE usualy has rear screens IMO. Theres nothing I can see there that's not on a Vogue, or a HSE with heated stearing wheel fitted as an extra.

Have the prices come down? I paid more than that a few years ago.

Don't know if they've come down as never had to have it done till last year but it cost me just under £1500 about 10 months ago. I suppose it depends where you get it done.
