Is this ever done?? Recently had a recon gearbox fitted with 2 year warranty, and on the terms and conditions it states the cooling system/radiator needs to of been replaced/serviced within the last 5 years?? Is this normal??

What is there to actually do to it? Other than replace the coolant? I looked at new rads on Ebay and at between £250 and £350 I dont fancy changing it (along with possibly other stuff) if theres no need to

Any advice greatly recieved people

A lot of vehicles have the Transmission Oil Cooler built into the Engine Cooling Radiator, if someone has a re-con transmission fitted and doesn't have "The cooling system overhauled" the transmission's company warranty is void...........basicaly we've had your money now f@@k @ff...

All Rangies I believe have separate independent transmission oil coolers..so it shouldn't effect you unless your transmission cooler is shot or blocked with crap.

I think I read somewhere that the transmission oil cooler uses the bottom 8 rows of the radiator, and these are very prone to clogging up with smeg, causing transmission overheats.
I think the tip to check was to open the drain valve at the bottom of the rad and see how fast the coolant comes out. if it oozes out, then it's probably clogged, if it runs out quickly then you're ok.
I had a search for the post but couldn't find it, but i think that was the general gist of it.

Cheers bigdel

Stupid question, but is the drain valve easy to spot? I dont wanna be undoing something else and get covered in something else

Not looked myself, but I think the second photo on page 2 of that post must be of the valve itself. Looks like it's got a red top to it so should be easy enough to spot
