hello got an issue with my TD6 2003

used the car earlier today it worked fine no problems went to go back out few hours later and it would not start, it cranks fine but does not fire up.

i had this issue afew months back and putting the gear into neutral the car would start fine so ive been doing that for months and today that has stopped working.

any ideas what this could be, could it be fuel injectors or something wrong with the gear selector which is stopping the car from starting?

I thought the gear selector stopped the key from turning rather than stopped it firing?
Do you have the green gear position lights up as in P for parked. When In park, does it crank but not start ?
Possibly an ignition switch problem.

If you had a fuel pump issue , either in tank or secondary by the rear wheel that could cause poor starting but really you need to plug it in to diagnostics to see where to start looking.
Cranking without start can also be immobiliser issue.

If you have had a problem starting the vehicle and the solution that worked for a few months now doesn't does that not tell you something...you needed diagnostics read months ago...

a local garage told me the gear selector or something gets dirty and the car still thinks its in gear stopping the car from starting he said the gearbox will need dropping to clean it and a solution was just to start the car in neutral so thats what ive been doing am not sure how true or not this is?

i put a code reader on the car and its coming back with the following
"fuel pressure monitoring while starting"
"Pre-fuel pressure control"

Ifi t was gearbow selector issue it wouldnt crank.

Sounds like possible in tank or the secondary pump has failed.

i disconnected the battery last night today i connected it back up and tried to start it, it started up fine left it running for 10mins and it ran with no issues,
turned it off for 5 mins and tried again and now it wont start again, if it was a fuel pump issue would the car not cut out or stutter while it was on?

i also cleared the codes and after i tried to start it, it came back with the 2 faults again
"fuel pressure monitoring while starting"
"Pre-fuel pressure control"

if it didn't know it was in P it wouldn't release the key in anycase.....

What do those 2 fault codes mean...

As far as im aware and this is from listning to my auto diagnostic mate clearing faults won't fix them you need diagnostics to be read to identify problem as you will be going round in circles replacing parts...

Turns out it was the secondary fuel pump, well its seem to be anyway i have replaced it and the car now starts and drives fine

But now when i turn the car on the new pump is making a really loud noise and there is a hissing sound coming from the front of the engine under where the EGR valve is sounds like a pipe has came loose. i can only think i have loosened one of the fuel pipes when i have been messing about trying to get the pump out.

You have a lot of vacuum lines under there , the vacuum is provided by a pump so you can stick your hand under there without the engine running but ignition on if it’s still making the noise but there isn’t a lot of room
There is a pipe connected to the EGR diaphragm isn’t there ?
