Guys

Had my TD6 for year and a half now, no probs starting for over a year, last year had a new battery fitted asthe old one went flat after a 2 week holiday, and i thoguht treat her to a new top of the range one from online. Car only does short trips, 5 days a week, start at 5am, 2 miles ot work then off again. 8 hrs later, back home again. This morning she struggled a bit to start, got to work all OK. now she's stuck outside work and wont start!
Remote unlocks, all dash lights light up, let pre-heat light go out, then nothing. You can just about hear it turning (I think) but not too sure, what can I do?

A,m probably going to get AA out to get me home (hopefully get me started at work so I can drive home), are there anythings I/he shouldnt do? Is it OK charging RR from hid van or battery pack?

New to this guys :mad:
 
No one can really hazard a guess on this problem.

You need to get the vehicle interrogated with diagnostics & it should pin point the problem.
 
Cheers Rick, got 2 independant specialists close by, hopefully can get her started and to one of them for a check up, they should have diagnostic gear im guessing?

Any do's/dont's for when Mr AA attempts to start her up?
 
You ain't driving far enough to keep the battery charged, simple flat battery problem IMO. Buy yourself a battery charger and plug in at night, or get a solar panel and connect it permanantly.

So will Mr AA simply jump start me and I gotta run for a while and put a charge back into it? I cant plug it in to charge overnight as park away from the house, what are the solar chargers like? can i plug one in cigarette lighter and sit it on the dashboard?

have you changed the blower motor final stage resistor yet? well known cause of battery drains on early L322's
 
There's certainly a drain there somewhere.

These L322's are complex. It could be one of many things.

However, I'd put my money on Datatek.

You can't plug into the cig lighter as it's dead with the ignition off as far as I'm aware. A solar panel will not charge at night. I reckon you would need a 12 watt panel left on all day when you are at work with the car parked to get the best of the sunlight.:)

It must also be worth checking thatyour alternator is charging properly.

sorry Data didnt explain myself properly I dont think, didnt mean will a solar charger get her breathing again now she's died on me, just wondered if theres any special procedure to go through when AA man gets here to get her started? I remember last year when indy changed my battery had to leave it for so long for some reason (I forget now, possibly to discharge or reset airbags or something?)

Del, think it had one of the resistors changed as a recal laction before I bought her, was theone you mention one of the ones done as recall? If so, she was done as I checked last year what the old battery gave up on me after a 2 week holiday

Put a meter on your battery terminals. Engine off with a healthy battery should read approx 12.5 amps. Turn it on and should jump to about 14.5, from memory if it sits below 14.1 with the engine running it means your alternator is not 100%. That's the way I've always done it anyway.
 
Alternatively, check battery voltage across the terminals with the engine running....should be 14v+

I seem to remember reading in a post that LR did issue a service bulletin concerning the blower resistor, can't think when or where I saw it though. Might be worth a search

Fort, so measure amps while she's turned off and just sat there, and amps when running? As blue beasty said 14v+ (volts) when running? :eek:
