Hi there,
I have recently bought a 2003 L322 Range Rover. I have since noticed a problem with the lower part of the rear tailgate.

It appears that the latches don't properly engage when closing both parts of the tailgate. It means there seems to be quite a bit of movement once it's closed and locked.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you know if it's easily fixable?

Thanks,
James

James,
I havent found the route cause yet but can get mine to lock now by manually lifting up the swithes above the 2 locking arms either side..

Hope this helps

i had the same problem with mine, easy fix though. take out the two torque head bolts and remove the latch(it just slides of the cable end) then clean all the old ****e out, i used penertrating oil and kept working the latch to get all the crap out then i cleaned it with rag and re oiled it. workes fine now, dont over tighten the bolts because they crush the latch and make it stick. just keep working the manual lever when tightening so you know when you have reached the limit.

I have the problem of lower tailgate not opening, Release button on the lip of the tailgate makes all the right noises but remains stubbornly shut, I have tried pressing the release catches down the side to no avail,
I cannot get to the catches to replace them, I have tried copious amounts of penetrating oil but no joy!Can any one shed any light on this or point me in the right direction like rewiring/short curcuiting it.

Hook it up to a ratchet strap..
Wrap the strap around a large immovable object and pull the door open with the use of a well pressed right foot.

Then you can get at it to replace

Pull the tailgate abit while trying the release catches.
As they are direct to the latch they maybe sticking.
