Hi Guys, I have a small rad leak on my TD6. I have been quoted £520 to replace by an independent. £375 of that is the Rad itself. Does anyone know a cheaper replacement and is this a job a gifted amatuer like me could undertake??
Thanks in advance (and please keep the sarcasm to a minimum guys!)

I think it's a fairly easy job to do, probably harder to bleed the system than actually replace the rad. Have a look in RAVE an see if you think you can do the job before you start. As for price of rad I can't be much more help.

I should have added that I replaced my radiator and it’s a piece of cake to do. The ‘official’ antifreeze ain’t cheap, though, when you come to refill it afterwards. From dry the capacity is 12.7 litres but if you aren’t draining the block then you’ll need around 11 litres to refill and therefore 5.5 litres of antifreeze. Land Rover charge £30 for a 5 litre bottle (part no. PDA5000310). I think that the BMW stuff is cheaper.

The workshop manual recommends that you remove the viscous fan when you replace the radiator though, because the radiator slides vertically upwards out of its cassette, this isn’t absolutely necessary.

Thanks for your help guys. I found one at Island 4x4 for £199 delivered. Should be here monday. Expect a call for help when I get it all apart!
I just cant use that RAVE manual at all. Any tips on how it works. It just seems to have a load of stuff for main dealers about operating instructions and I was expecting a workshop manual. Maybe I am using it wrong?

If you want to send me a PM telling me your e-mail address I'll send you the relevant pages from the manual

As Bemble say's, it's not nessacary to remove the fan it just makes it a bit harder, having done the job a few times you will find removing the fan (should you wish to) the hardest job of all, unless you can get or make a tool which locks the fan bolts, allowing you to release the big securing nut.

If you go down this route you will be able to remove the radiator and cowl in one piece
