The people who fitted your gearbox should of flushed the oil cooler out!!! gearbox over heat could be caused by the wrong oil it should be Liquimatic super atf ( dextron 3 ) i dont know the castrol number atm were as older autos such as disco 2 and p38s run on dextron 2 wich has a lower heat exchange rate. changing the main radiator will not help the gear box it has nothing to do with it !! if u take the rad out then u can clean out the radiator fins on the rad and the oil cooler....itcould also be a faulty temp sensor/ wiring. if its the engine over heating then replace the elctro thermostat cuz if this sticks then the draw in the wiring melts the loom and thats not a cheap fix its 9/10 a new wiring loom for the engine

Thank you for your help I will speak to the people that put the gearbox in and find out if the work was done
Thanks again
Oh and could you tell me what time I'm allowed to post and where I'm allowed thanks

What a load of rubbish. The poster didn't even say if he had a petrol or diesel so how can you comment??
And if it's the petrol V8 then the rad DOES have something to do with the gearbox because the cooler bolts on to the bottom of the rad.

If the original poster could let us know what fixed his problem that would be great. I have the same problem and would love to hear how you fixed it.
