And I am here to resurrect it yet again

2003 RR

Brand new key from Dealer

insert key, turn, do the hokey pokey, doors unlock, Eureka

Or so I thought. Reinsert key, will no longer turn!

mid buy the module for my dinosaur Rovacom, but not being able to turn key, I doubt I’d be able to access anything at all as typically, few, if any systems can be accessed with key on.

Any insights or suggestions?

Cheers
PT

If the car has been unlocked for a while you wont be able to turn the key all the way to start, turn the key about 10 degrees on then back that will wake the system up so when you turn the key again it should turn all the way to start if not then it sounds like the chip in the key is`nt being picked up.

Brand new GenYouWine key

It turned just fine until I synced the key. It locks/unlocks the doors but won’t turn.

Literally no more than 90 seconds after I “programmed” the lock/unlock functions, brand new battery.

Now key will not turn, I doubt it is the common steering column issue, but could be. Little history on the truck, bought at a tow yard as abandoned with no key

You could try remove/reinsert fuse 18 in glove box trick see if that lets you turn key once, have a look on Youtube for Bens garage he posted a video other day with same problem.

I don’t work on these trucks often enough to remember to do such things! Will give it a go next chance!

thanx Mate!

Nothing to lose by giving it go and by the way its not a truck its a sophisticated gentlemens (or ladies) carriage.
Thank you for educating our cousin from across the Pond. Truck indeed, that's an 18 wheel semi. Though a Semi in our fair land is something completely different.;):D:D

I love you guys!

I’ve been running my shop now for 20 years. Some of
my clients like to call their Land Rovers trucks, some cars. Just as long as they don’t refer to them as SUVs (they are NOT SUVs, they are LAND ROVERS dammit! Best4X4XFAR!)

My wife would look at my sidelong when I’d call our Evoque a truck…

Recently, she demanded we trade the Evoque for an LR4.

She proudly calls HER LR4 a truck!

As for semi, it’s not a semi, it is a Heavy Goods Vehicle!
Gentleman’s or Lady’s carriage indeed!

Cheers Mates!

Hi,
I was looking through a manual I got a while ago for my 2002 RR 4.4 V8 L322 and came across this useful info that worked for me today to reset my key.

When I got my car only 1 of the keys worked even though the red light flashed when pressed on the other. Anyway used the procedure below and hey presto both keys now activate the locking, hope this helps.

Reset Procedure for your key fobs
Every signal from the remote handset contains the transmitter identification code and a rolling code. The BCU checks
the codes and only responds if the signal is from a valid transmitter. During vehicle production, the remote handsets
supplied with the vehicle are initialised to set their individual transmitter identification codes and synchronise their
respective rolling codes with the BCU. If a transmitter loses synchronisation with the BCU, or if a replacement or
additional remote handset is to be used with the vehicle, the initialisation procedure must be repeated. During the
procedure, all remote handsets for use with the vehicle must be initialised.
Initialisation Procedure

1 Ensure the vehicle is unlocked and the driver and front passenger doors are closed.
2 Install a key/remote handset in the ignition switch, then turn the ignition switch to position I and back to position
0 in less than 5 seconds to put the BCU into the initialisation mode. Continue the procedure within 30 seconds
of turning the ignition switch to position 0.

3 Remove the key/remote handset from the ignition switch.
4 Press and hold the unlock button for a maximum of 15 seconds. During this time, momentarily press the lock
button three times within 10 seconds.

5 Release both buttons.
6 Successful initialisation is indicated by the BCU locking then unlocking the vehicle. If this does not occur, repeat
step 4.

7 Repeat steps 4 and 5 with all other remote handsets belonging to the vehicle (4 maximum). Begin the
initialisation of each remote handset within 30 seconds of completing the previous initialisation, or the BCU will
drop out of the initialisation mode and the complete procedure will have to be started again.
Cheers Pal my fobs now working fine.

Btw I forgot to add you tube vids tell you to do it the other way round and press lock button then intermittently press unlock, no wonder it didn't work.
