well
had a slight misfire removed injectors 1 looked like the culprit!!!
had this one checked first and it was at fault !!........re-fitted all injectors
ran the car still bit of a mis-fire put a forte diesel treatment in the car ran for 60-70 miles still no change mis-firing and smoking unburnt fuel ......so took to a local independent specialist he plugged in and live data showed over fuelling on cylinder 1 I was told cylinder 1 was the front cylindernear the rad !! took the injector out and it was the one that had been tested and repaired ....took this back to the guy who did the injector who has just reported back no fault !! ANY IDEAS GUYS getting really p****d*ff now feel like killing someone :boom::boom::hurt:

Hmmm...overfueling on Number One (yes the one at the front is no.1) then it could be either low fuel pressure meaning it isn't getting atomised properly and dribbling in or the injector isn't sealing properly and it is leaking fuel....

The TD6 is a Common Rail so low pressure might affect the other injectors unless there is a blockage in the rail near to Number 1. Also the injector opening times are controlled via the ECU so maybe resetting the fuel trims might help....

thanks for the reply saint ......

just been outside now and looked down the port and noticed some carbon build on the wall do you think this could be the problem ??

how do i reset the trims ??........

and do you have any idea what the pressure should be reading at the rail and at each injector

thanks in advance

No Idea on Fuel pressure, but it will be very high no doubt...Fuels trims need to be reset using Diagnostics (that is if the Diesel has trims - pretty sure it does, but could be wrong)

Carbon Build up is common with a leaky injector IMHO....have a word with a company called Diesel Bob - he comes highly recommended on here!

Try putting no1 injector into cylinder 2 an see if the over fuelling fault changes to number 2,were the rest of the injectors tested?which diagnostic machine was it connected to,can't see how live data will show up over fuelling on a certain cylinder, unless its the injector duration.

Injector looms can also give problems when I do them now if you have a fueling compensation problem I only use Bosch injectors had to many problems with so called injectors being repaired

I'm not aware of any fuel trims Saint.
OP, check the EGR valve.

dove only had the 1 injector tested and it was at fault trying to penny pinch!!

gonna try swapping injectors 1+2 over see what happens

well thanks everyone !!!! what a superb forum

ive sorted it today!!! picked the injector up went to fit it noticed it looked raised to the others cleaned the port and what was at the bottom another copper washer took the washer off the injector fitted the injector no misfire no smoke very very very very happy:D:D:D

please note im not thick lol..... I bought the car with the misfire so someone else had left the washer there!!!!!!

Great news...

So it seems the extra washer was preventing the injector correctly atomising the fuel into the swirl chamber - so the fuel was atomising and hitting the injector port and forming enlarged droplets that won't ignite and burn properly causing the issue...

Great find and something I will advise others to look out for in the future....

There is a swirl chamber on the M57? I thought not as it's direct injection, no pre-combustion chamber.

Isn't the Swirl Chamber built into the Piston Head (it is given a fancy shape) if the injector is sitting to high, some of the atomised fuel will bounce into the injector port/screw hole and form large droplets rather than a mist causing issues.....will have to check RAVE and see if I can see the Piston Crown shape...

You are right a Di engine won't have a swirl/precombustion chamber but I am sure the Crown is oddly shaped to instigate a spin in the atomised fuel to ensure a full burn...

EDIT: as attached, the Piston Crown is the Swirl Chamber....:D:D

There are various swirl arrangements on different engines just no precombustion chamber, the early Ford Di used some fancy inlet manifolding. Just making the distinction.
You are absolutely right about injector positioning extremly critical on a Di.:)
