Hello all,

Had a fault coming and going with my 2002 L322 HSE - Some times when i go to open the car with my key fob - the car doesnt open / respond. it does this on both of my fobs.

also, some days, the car unlocks fine and when i go to start the car, turn on my ignition and turn the key to start the engine and it has a 2 - 4 second delay in starting - ie you turn the key to start the engine and then 2-4 seconds later the engine then turns over and starts

there seems to be a delay in the engine starter motor kicking in ??

It seems to me like the immobiliser may be the problem ?

To get it starting sometimes i just have to turn the key in the ignition barrell a couple of times and then it starts fine.

it only does it once a day or not for a couple of days ?

I have changed the batterys in my fob but it still does it.

any ideas anyone ?

Is it a diesel??

Now I am not going to teach you to suck eggs here so please bear with me......

As you know Diesels need to be warm before they will fire up, this is why they are fitted with glow plugs, as it is heat and compression that ignites the diesel oil.

I had a diesel Peugeot that if you put the key in the ignition and turned the engine over before the glow plugs had gone through their heat cycle, the starter wouldn't turn the engine over until the glow plugs turned off....this is a safety interlock to ensure you don't knacker the engine trying to start it before the Glow Plugs have heated the combustion chamber.

Not sure if the L322 has a similar system, but it took my other half a little while to figure that out and to turn the ignition to position 2 for 10-12 seconds before trying to start the car.....as she would always get on the phone and say the starter motor doesn't work and I would have to ask her to turn to pos 2 then wait then turn to pos 3 for starting..>!!!
 
Nothing too unusual about key fobs not working, they are susceptible to external interference. Mine does it in local car park all the time, ok everywhere else.
Car not starting could be faulty lock barrel of possibly sticking inhibitor switch on gearbox.

Back here again.

Regarding the immobiliser problem I had, well cars been fine for last 3 weeks.
Until today, the problem come back, except it took me at least 5 minutes of turning the key, locking / unlocking the car until the engine decided to start!!!

So changed battery in fob just in case it was low, problem still persists! Sometimes now the dash flashes up saying low battery in key fob !
How can that be if it's just had a new battery.

Now folks, could it be the cars problem or the key fobs problem ???
It's a bit odd that both fobs play up, but I suppose they have seen better days, ie rubber buttons have worn etc...

Or can the cars immobiliser be at fault ?

The annoying bit is that the fault does not always happen, one day the cars fine the next day it's not !

I hope someone can help spread some knowledge on this matter
Or hopefully a diagnostic plug in will pick up a fault ???

Might be worth having a look at
Fullfatrr.com lots of info on l322's,any chance it could be car battery linked?
 
Did you ever get to the bottom of this, I have a L322, the key turns in the ignition, but no power to the starter?
