2002 4.4 v8. Problem started with the car when turned off noticed that the rear brake lights were on. went back to car and could not get in on the fob and then the key would not turn. eventually got this diagnosed as a faulty solenoid behind the ignition barrel. A week later and all was well until it then did exactly the same except when I disconnected the battery and charged it up (battery was dead after finding rear brake light on in the morning) it fired up first time and you could keep removing the key and start it up and brake lights were off. it is now continueing randomly to do this. I have checked the ecu,s for water ingress in the boot and the fuse box and nothing ,its dry as a bone. so do,s anyone have any idea what is causing the brake lights to stay on every so often after the ignition has been turned off and affecting the ignition switch. Its been at an indy garage for a week working on it ad hock in between jobs and they are stumped. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Do the brake lights operate with the ignition off, they do on many cars. If they do it could simply be the brake light switch. Beyond that I do not know, the L322 is a complicated beast with a light control module which I suppose could be implicated, it's known for getting wet.

Thank you but LCU has been checked and nothing was wrong with it and the battery output is also with in tolerance.

I was wondering if you had resolved your problem as I have a similar issue with my TDV8.
On mine the brake lights stay on and the key fobs stop working until I disconnect the battery and do a hard reset then everything works as normal until I switch off when the problem returns.

Yes mine was traced back to a water ingress from the windscreen on the drivers side. The bonding had gone and in heavy rain which we had at the time the drip of water was falling directly onto the Light module. Once this was dried out and bagged I had no other issues. Windscreen now replaces and all is well. I would check that first and also ensure you have a 100% battery as this was another issue. I always had HDC inoperable when first starting up but since new battery this has gone.

Thanks for getting back, my LCM is bone dry as is every other module I've looked at, but it's booked in to an indi tomorrow so fingers crossed.
