Hi, hope I'm in the rite section to be posting, I've just found this forum so thought I'd give it a try.
My 2003 L322 as heavy steering at low revs if I was to rev it up it would be lite.

I changed the servotronic valve and drained the steering fluid and put fresh fluid in but it's still the same.

So I'm on here hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks jay

Sorry forgot to mention, it only happens once
The car as warmed up, so wouldn't this mean the pump is fine?
Thanks

Loose belt, low fluid, old fluid (fluid changes viscosity when old and warm), or the more expensive Servotronic Valve in the steering rack (this varies the assistance at a given road speed)

Hi,
I drained and re filled the fluid and replaced the servotronic valve yesterday,
This hasn't changed a thing
Thanks

Oops - just re-read your first post -

Next would be looking at the belt and pump...

Also Speed sensitive assistance is governed by the speed signal received from the ABS ECU. The assistance amount is then controlled by the Body Control Unit under the drivers seat.

Considering your issue is related to engine speed...i.e. it is lighter when engine revs increase....could be the engine idle is too low, the pump is tired or the belt is slipping.

The oil probably thins out a bit when warms up and not making enough pressure till it spins faster,by reving engine,

does seem odd that with new oil and such, it only does it when the engine is warm....

Only thing I can think of is as the engine warms the belt loosens due to it expanding from heat...maybe the belt tensioner is a little stuck/lost its tension so it can't take up the expansion!

Well as I work away in the week I'm not going to be able to do anything until next weekend, but I have just ordered a new pump so will change the belt at the same time. I'll let you know how I get on
Thanks again

Diagnostics ?

Cheaper than just swapping stuff out in the vain hope it will fix it:)
Was going to suggest Diagnostics after he had checked the Belt and Tensioner as I previously suggested...

Never said it was the pump, only that it could be a tired pump but to check the Belt and Tensioner first...then Diagnostics.

Not sure what Diagnostics will tell you on the steering system, only that Steering Angle Sensor is calibrated and is used by the ABS ECU for steering input information....and that the BCU is controlling the Servotronic Valve...(not even sure this will show on diagnostics)

Yeah when I go back home the weekend I will go and get it plugged in see if it tells me anything, I have read a few thing on the net a they seem to go for the servotronic valve or the bcu. I have done the servotronic valve, so does anyone no if it is the bcu how I go about changing it?
Thanks

Swapping out the BCU can be a minefield as this is the main brain of the car....once you have one, it needs to be coded to your vehicle, the Security System has to be recoded to the BCU and all the parameter settings for the kit on your car (Rain Sensors, Seat Type, Engine type, AC type etc etc) all need to be setup....

Easier if you have a Faultmate Extreme or T4...or a dealer who is willing to do it for you!

Diagnostics should show valve current of approx 800mA at idle with a modulation value of 45-80%. But if you scope the live side of the servotronic valve you will see battery voltage until about 35mph when the BCU starts to modulate the valve, outputting a square wave.
Easy to check power to the valve,if its there then I'd suspect a tired pump, harder to test as you would need a tee piece and gauge etc.

Thanks for the info, well I am putting a new pump on this weekend so I'll let you all no how it goes
Thanks for the in put
