Hi all, my beloved 4.4 V8 has died this morning. Went to pull off to find lots of revs followed by a bang and transmission failsafe being displayed on the dash. Just been advised 2k for a recon box. Any ideas or help would be appreciated

Does the £2k include fitting? If so, that isn't a bad deal. I can re-manufacture a 5HP24 for around £1k including 11 litres of LT71141 and a re-manufactured torque converter but I've already got several on the go at the moment. I have put it into a well known gearbox specialist in Birmingham. The quote is for a recon box plus oil cooler and oil. To be honest all I asked was how much to fix so I hope that includes fitting, if not i will be ripping it out myself.

I did one about 10 days ago,it was £1600 odd plus Vat from LR - that was the retail price,I paid alot less with trade discount on a stock order over 3 days.Be worth asking what you can get knocked off.Its not a bad job to fit it either if you can get access to a ramp.Fire a couple of cans of Dr Tranny Cooler cleaner through the cooler,just to be sure.
At a price as low as that its well worth considering,esp as it gives a proper LR warranty at any main dealer.

If you can do me a favour and pm me which dealer and how much you paid as I'm in the vehicle recovery industry so should be able to get at trade cost. Usually our workshop only has time for the quick repairs but if this I'd going to save me a quite a bit then they are going to be busy. Help and comments much appreciated everyone , thank you

Well looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and go with the workshop my car is at. Would love to take up bumbles option but with wife about to give birth I have decide to let driver transmissions in Birmingham recon my box. I have spent several days talking to dealers and not one has quoted me less than £ 2100 for the box alone. Would love to know which dealer you are using eightinavee. The steamers would not entertain offers at all. So my logic is let someone else supply and fit local to me, this leaves me time to work my arse off to pay for it. Thanks to everyone on here plus friends who have been trying to pull all the stops out trying to help me.
