Hi, my tdv8 vogue se had a problem with the nokia phone kit, it was full of water, the previous keeper was told to cut the fibre optic cables and join them together, thus bypassing the nokia phone unit, this has not worked, i am now trying to find somebody who can splice some new terminals onto this, do you know anybody or do you know another way around this ? i am quite desperate now, as i can't seam to get much info or any replacement parts

From 2005, the entire infotainment system in the L322 uses the later MOST (Media Oriented System Transport) Fibre optic bus. Same as on Disco 3 and Range Rover sports. In fact exactly the same ECU's programmed with exactly the same software.

It is quite advanced and can scare those never having worked with it much, and diagnosing problems with it requires a somewhat different approach to normal.

It's basically a loop that goes in and out of all the Infotainment ECU's.
Each ECU gets the light from the preceeding one on its input and then re emits it on its output. If there is a break in the loop or one ECU looses power or stops working for any reason, the whole bus goes down.

When that happens you get the common symptoms you describe.

I recently fixed a 2005 L322 with the MOST Bus down, turns out the telephone module had water ingress and was not repeating the light.
I fitted a new one, but later cleaned the old one up and got it working again and actually retro fitted it in my own Disco 3.

If you unplug the MOST connector from an ECU, you should see light at the end of the input terminal of the cable, They are arrowed for direction. For a split second you might also see light being emmitted from the MOST connector of the ECU. Also if you hover the connector over the socket close enough, sufficient light will reach the ECU's reciever for it to fire up its emmitter.

If you dont see light in the cable, the problem is before that, if you dont get light out of the ECU then its that ECU that is not working as it should and you need to check its power feeds fuses etc.

There is an LR tool availiable called a MOST Prism to aid in MOST bus testing, its basically a socket with a loop of cable to by pass each ECU in turn.

Hope this helps.

If the problem is caused by water ingress you need to sort the water prob first otherwise its a money drainer, ingress is an easy fix. I have had new sat nav, and both amps replaced with alternative upgrades at a fraction of the main dealer costs, in some cases the sat nav can be saved. The upgrades are better quality than RR parts, fact.

You must be the first person to find stopping the water ingress easy. Even Land Rover gave up and issued a posh plastic bag to deflect the water as a modification:rolleyes:

The posh plastic bag may be a mod but not a remedy, when fitted the under side is foam and it holds the water back , no drips, the condensation does the rest ( more damage ) it just slows the process.

I made enquiries and was told ingress was coming from sunroof drains, or the n/s tailgate hinge and fixing bolts or the body seam to the right of it, also to replace the tailgate seal.

If you open the tailgate, behind the seal and inbetween the hinges there are two wiring sockets , they carry the power to the tailgate, these need to be properly sealed. Water gets past them runs accross and down the n/s corner pillar, under the rear n/side quarter light and onto the sat nav.

All my kit , tuner amp, audio amp & sat nav , replaced and bone dry, all bubble wrapped and checked regularly. I also removed rear light clusters and drilled drain holes on their underside out of site, as they tended to fill up with water also.

I hope this helps. :amen:

After being quoted £1500 to fix my audio system, I've just followed these steps with mine and found that the light didn't make it past the first unit which was the Nokia box.

Took the box apart and it was quite obvious that water had been getting inside. Cleaned it up. Removed all the corrosion around the pins (which incidently wasn't visible from the outside of the unit) cleaned the rest of it with contact cleaner. Plugged it all back in and HEY PRESTO!!

Works perfectly!

Can't thank you enough!

If you are ever in my area look me up and I'll buy you a pint or two!!

Is that an open invitation to all forum members? see you didn't put your location in :):)

Great post and very helpful as I'm still struggling with my audio. It looks like someone has already done the cable bypass trick on mine so I think opening up the big black box is next as one of the pins has snapped off as someone else has mentioned. In a way it's nice to listen to the engine noise without music but you also get to listen to other knocks and creaks which is terrifying

Afternoon, I am new to this site, and have the same type of fault. I have a RR L322 Supercharged Vogue SE 2006 on a 56 plate. it has the Jaguar engine in it.
My screen works, so does my sat nav, however its my rear entertainment DVD player that does not, there is just no power to it. HELP

 Hi, I'm new to this and indeed distraught.
Over the past week I have lost all function from the Touch Screen Centre Console, nothing is working only the land Rover logo comes on, and the AV button just flashes.
Just came back from the main dealers, distraught at a repair price tag of £3k before vat !!!!!!!!. suggesting its corroded wiring and the Sat-Nav DVD, Telephone, AMP hardware, all need replaced, and this is all before they establish the cause of the problem.

I am totally lost and would like to know if anyone has experienced this problem before, and would welcome any suggestions.

The Vehicle is an L322 2004/05 3.0 with touch screen sat/nav - tv.

Regards
this happened to me
it was the dvd unit in the boot died
because they are all linked it stopped everything working
we removed it then bye passed the connections which are fibre optics
then everything else came back to life
I'm still waiting to find a replacement dvd unit

Hi guys,
Urgently seeking wisdom on this topic! I have read through the previous posts and my issue is slightly different. I have a 2006 L322 supercharged (with the 4.2 Jag motor). So my blue tooth module went due to moisture, linked it out and everything else has been fine until just recently the head unit defaulted to the land rover logo (One of the ecu's on the MOST bus having trouble) and then the stereo just blared static at me for the whole drive home! I couldn't turn it off and when I got home, the stereo continued to belt out static, even when I had turned the ignition off and locked the car! I ended up disconnecting the battery to make it shut up!
I've driven it a couple of times and it is reoccurring after a set period of time. Today I just had the land rover logo and then the head unit just went off completely! No screen, no flashing power button. I desperately need to get it fixed as I'm emigrating in a month (If the bloody border is open!) and need to get the car sold!
Cheers in advance!

You have the answer, damp If the Bluetooth module was damp, odds on other modules have suffered too and there may be corrosion in the connectors.
Good luck with emigrating in a month, I don't fancy your chances.

Neither do I @Datatek, neither do I........

I get that one of the other ecu's has probably got damp, have taken them out and they're all piled on the kitchen table right now. I wouldn't however expect that to turn the head unit off completely???

Look at the connectors for corrosion and missing pins that have corroded off.
Bonne chance with the emigration, I emigrated 20 years ago and have never regretted it.
