Hi people, Today I have been fitting an original cd player to my car, having the lights on for around 5 hours aswell as the radio for testing I went to start it but it was dead.

On the dash was displayed air sus inactive & engine safe mode or something along those lines. So I jumped started it, which got rid off the 2 messages but now the orange engine light is on

Have I broken something by jumping it or does it just keep the light on due to it going into safe mode?

It's a 4.4 V8 2002 if it makes any odds.

Cheers! Leon

Have you tried turning the steering to full LH lock & then full RH lock (with the engine ticking over) while stationary?

on the p38 v8 you are supposed to jump earth to body + to battery, they state you must not put the earth/- (negative/black lead) to the battery on the p38.

dunno if its same for the l322 but this could have caused a power surge and knackered something.

i would go have the car put on diags see what comes up.

whereabout do you live, mebbe if yer close to someone they can help. certainly if yer near me i can turn the check engine light out for ya( well i think i can on my software???)

The only way to get rid of the check engine lamp is to stick it on Testbook or similar and see what codes have been logged. In truth its more likely that the gearbox has logged a low voltage or CAN fault as it too can use the CEL.

Thanks for the replys, I have just tried the full lock for L to R but nothing.

I live in Teesside so too far for me to travel to you Gavbriggs but thanks.

Any futher ideas? Thanks, Leon

As eightinavee says it needs plugging in. I rekon it'll probably show an immobiliser fault from when you had your flat battery. I've been out to a couple of L322's that have had their management lights on after having had flat batterys.

cheers ratty, the immobiliser fault is it easy to wipe?

Wonder how much I'm looking at to get it plugged in and wiped

Yes. It takes all of 2 mins. Cost can vary greatly depending on what garage you take it to.

If may reset itself after it's been driven several times.

On the L322, there is a special way to jump start the car using the positive nut on the battery bulkhead and the negative on another nut on part of the body close by. You mustn't use the battery terminals at all becasue there is a specific safery circuit built into the battery at the positive terminal. Maybe you've damaged it?

think its sorted, plugged it into a snap on diag machine and wiped the codes and nothings back as of yet so finger crossed its sorted!

Thanks guys. Leon

The light may be on because the battery is low, I had this on other cars, take it for a drive with the ancilliaries turned off where poss, let the battery charge.
