Hi all, i've been reading this forum for a while but this is my first post. i bought a v8 range rover about two months ago, despite knowing it would be thirsty I found myself staggered by its ferocious consumption of fuel- (six hundred and fifty quid in seven weeks with no real trips anywhere).

i did more research and last week got a lpg conversion done- 95litre tank in boot and 8 injectors into the manifold etc etc. It works brilliantly you cant easily tell when it switches over. (i would be happy to post pics etc if anyone needs info.....)

anyway on the drive home when i went to switch on the radio nothing happened so i tried the cd nothing, i then noticed that the dsp option has gone from the menu screen.

the dsp is (i undestand) the digital sound processor/ amplifier and is located in the left quarter panel this was duly found and all the plugs are in. i checked the radio fuse-ok- and phoned colliers landrover in birmingham who said after a couple of calls that i would need a new dsp amp £509+vat fitted.

The chap from the gas conversion place is coming over to have a look at it in the morning (quite keen to help at the moment), he thinks its something to do with the battery having been disconnected or maybe a plug out in the elecronics box under the bonnet.

has anyone heard of this type of thing before? any ideas gratefully recieved.

sorry mate, cant help but good luck. i does amaze me that the main dealers are that good that they can diagnose a fault over the phone that will cost that much to repair, thats very clever in deed.

i recon they wouldn't be able to do it if it was a relay or something cheap..............

Hurrah!! fixed!!

two delightful gentlemen from the hilton autogas centre arrived and fixed it in half an hour.

they disconnected the battery and shorted the two removed leads together for five seconds then reconnected and waited for fifteen minutes then turned on the ignition.

DSP is back on the menu!!! however i had a traction controll light and a "air suspension inactive" message which were cleared byturning the steering fully from left to right then switching the ignition off i just need to reset the time and date. the consumption figures were cleared too.

the satnav(cd based) still remembers previous addresses. i also understand that there is a pitfall with the satnav- you must never disconnect the unit while the light is on because it wont have saved correctly and can then require a replacement unit. i suspect this applies to disconnecting the battery too.

hope this helps someone......

well... either

a) they would have fixed it and charged me a halfhour's labour

or b) fitted a new dsp amp and charged me £509+vat

or c) fixed it and charged me £509+vat

maybe we could have a poll on maindealer ethics - lol -

hard to say what they would have done... but they did ring me back while i was trying to sort it, which i thought was pretty good.

Yea give me your phone number i will ring you back for £500 too, good that its sorted now though

Thanks for your post it seems some good info for resetting fault codes, but could you tell me what you mean by not resetting while the sat nav light is on ? Just in case I ever need to do it.

Also I am getting my L322 hopefully at the end of the week and it is already booked in for gas conversion on Monday 20/8, what system did you get fitted ? I have gone for a BRC.

Thanks...........Adam

Hi onroadal
My rr has had no sound for while now but I don't remember ever seeing a dsp on the menu where was it???
I've had mine in bits today and everything looks like new no sign of water and all the fuses were fine do you think it's worth trying the battery thing??

Cheers
Richard
