I know this is a bit of a thread revival, however, finding it was a god send when on Sunday evening the lock on our L322 decided to break!
I can confirm that the E46 door lock repair kits you can buy on eBay (just search exactly that) provide the part that usually breaks.
You do need to use the existing post(column, whatever you want to call it) with the pozi drive dog on it from the Range Rover lock as the one the kits come with is no good for our cars (you’ll see what I mean if you put them next to each other).
This is a good video showing the repair being done on an e46 bmw 3 series lock;
I used the same part as in the video, which the host describes as being for left hand drive cars, however, it lines everything up correctly for me (RHD car).
I replaced just the part that fits into the baseplate as that was the part broken (as the host says, it’s what normally fails) but used the rest of the original parts as I have faith in them.
Just wanted to 100% confirm that the bmw repair kits are what you need in this event!
Oh, and don’t bother stripping all the door card etc off, you just need to undo the T30 torx bolt that you can see near the edge of the door behind where the door lock is. Unbolt that one bolt, pull the door handle as if you are opening the door and the lock barrel and holder comes away. Be sure not to let the torx bolt drop down inside the door though! Saves a lot of work for nothing and you don’t have to go near the airbag!
