My car has full service history from Land Rover but it did not have the coolant changed at the last service when it should have. Cheapskate dealer, as they sold the car at the time.

Land Rover say 4 years and the pink coolant has a 5 year life.

Anyway its now just turned 6 and done 52k miles, so I dont think it will be a major problem, but do want it doing.

RAVE spec - Refill 13 litres of OAT with no methanol and ethylene glycol based.

So I've been looking at the Comma G30 and G40.

Both seem to fit the bill as they are pure ethylene glycol. But the G30 is 'silicate free' and cheaper, while the G40 has 'advanced silicate additives' and costs more!

The Comma site recommends the G30, but also states that the capacity is 8.8l!

So can anyone shed any light on the refill amount and correct stuff?
 
BMW 4.4 V8 engine by the way.

I've just thought that perhaps Comma only sugguest 8.8l as they may not take into account removing the engine drain bolt too. Just removing the radiator drain tap.

All approved anti-freezes are ethylene glycol based (containing no methanol) with silicate non-phosphate corrosion inhibitors, to protect the cooling system

Castrol NF
BASF Glysantin G48


These are silicate based coolants rather than the pink OAT. The long life OAT coolant wasn't introduced until the Jag petrol engines came in 2006.

Something doesn't sound right. My car has pink coolant in already!

Where did you get your info from?

Mines from the RAVE manual.
 
My info is from the latest LR dealer system that replaced rave. Range Rover deffo didn't get the pink oat coolant until 06MY when the jag engines went in. The BMW petrols are still serviced using the blue/green g48.
 
Even the Comma site says I need pink OAT.

No, don't believe you mate. You're wrong, I'm sure of it. lol
 
I thought general rule of thumb was blue/green coolant for vehicles over ten years old and anything earlier go for the red/orange pink whatever colour you want to call it. recently canged mine on my 03reg 4.4 with the orange coolant. I believe the logic behind this was engines over ten years are more prone to corrosion purely because of materials that were used back then. So the newer orange stuff has slightly different inhibitors in which sould extend the life of the components. Personal opinion anything that BMW have had an input into leaks, so theres no way the coolant will be there in 5 years. As by then the rad will have failed at least once, water pump will have fallen off chewing everything up in sight. Sorry to be a sceptic, had my spanners out too many times already.

Loving it though, passes everything but a BP. Fantastic:D
 
I know for my wife's Z3 and a mates E46 M3 and 320D BMW specify a green colour coolant. What do Comma recomend for a 4.4 X5.
 
Oh I don't know now. I'm gonna check with my local Land Rover parts dept.

Anyway, Land Rover are supposed to be sending me some free coolant as they never changed it when it was due on an Inspection 2, so we'll see what turns up.
 
Hmm I wouldn't believe the Comma website over the LR dealer workshop information. It's definitely BASF G48, Texaco AFC (their version), or Glacelf MDX (BASF G48 re-badged).

The LR part numbers are PDA500300 for 1 litre which is £7.06+vat or PDA500310 for 5 litres which is £28.20+vat

You might not do any harm using the full pink/orange OAT coolant, but some plastics aren't strictly compatible with it although you'd probably never have an issue. Just don't mix both types of coolant together, flush through with plain water first if you switch from one to the other.

Well I complained to the LR dealer who did the last service and they sent me 7 litres of PDA500300, lol, so that was a result.

Will buy some soft water from auto factors and get it in this weekend at a 50/50 mix.

I've looked again at my coolant, and because of the black header tank its hard to see the colour, I think it may well be green/blue after all. :doh:

Looked at the stuff over here some of it is Monopropyl Glycol and green in colour. It says it will mix with all other types of antifreeze and is compatable with all engines???
 
Changed the coolant today, and just to confirm it did have green/blue in.

I got about 13 litres in, may require a top up tomorrow though.
