Diagnostics would be first port of call to find out why the ECU has halted the system.

As Saint says. It could be anything from the ABS unit sulking or the Ride Height sensor kaputt. either way get the fault codes read. It's not likely to be fatal or serious and u should be able to fix easily.

have you fixed the issue and stropped the water getting in first ?

usually its the tailgate seal that needs replacing
