Hi All,
New to the LandyZone...
I've got a 2004 4.4 V8 104k miles,
Recently had full service Inc oil change belts changed. She was running quite until this morning.
I've started her from cold and have this noise. Video posted below. No idea if it's chain guides or vanos related or anything else. Seems to be louder from the right hand side.

Any help would be great!

I'd be counting on failed guides/tensioners.

Only real way to tell is to pull both cam covers.

stop running it until the issue is resolved.

Sounds like its popped a plug out to be honest.
Pull the cam cover off and have a look see....who did the service ?? Spark plugs changed ??.

Wrong noise for tensioner or guides

I'd go for tensioner/guides. Sounds like the chain is bashing against the cam casings. Had this on a bimmer 540 when the power steering pump seized and broke the tensioners.

I've rebuilt a few of these now, that is definitely timing chain related, you can hear it slapping..

Spark plug is more of Chuff noise, especially is its shat one ;)

It’s not chain tensioner or vanos as they don’t suddenly go instantly it’s progressive. If you go online on YouTube there’s a couple of postings showing vanos issues. If you have done the service yourself have you done anything near the fan. It’s too rapid a noise for your worst fears. If you have had the air box out have you dislodged a wire or cable that’s catching the fan.

you're wrong in this case the chain tensioner can stick suddenly, and the guides can crumble and deposit the guide material in the sump..

Again suddenly

Well that’s a pretty strong statement to make but obviously I bow down to your superior knowledge and know how but I think you’ll find in the end if this thread is finished it’s not the chain
Having built a few of them I am qualified to give an educated opinion..
The chain is a weak link in the M62;

You may be qualified but everyone is allowed an opinion and even experts are wrong just look up Micheal fish !!!
