hello everyone,

happy new year to everyone, i have a little issue that drives me nut on my RR

i bought it 2 years ago (engine has been replaced by previous owner) and everything was fine but i could never access the ECM unit using diag tools. (ECM module called DDE4)
suddenly now i have a fioul injection issue and i need to access this ECM module in order to check the fioul pressure and other things...
do you have any idea why i can't access ECM modules whereas all is the others are ok to access with the diag tool ?
i admit that i'm a bit lost on that point...
Many thanks for your help

What diagnostics are you using?

Hello
Thanks for the reply
I use ICARSOFT CR MAX and I can access all modules (air suspension , abs……) except the one for the engine which is the one I need.
Thanks for your help

If it's generic fault reader try accessing it under bmw and x5.
I've an autel mx808 which will access most things but the suspension on the early l322's but I did get into other systems using the bmw section of the software.

i've already tried with BMW section but doesnt work for me.
i was even thinking to try with ISTA...

Hi, I have the same spec L322 as you though a 2003 and just installed ista and can confirm on my RR it connects instantly to engine ecu going in as E53 X5 same model year, all functions within ISTA module also appears to work, though I am still learning this software it seems its compatible with every ecu I have tried to access so far using the switched K-DCAN usb interface. Not sure it makes any difference but running mine via WIN 7 Ultimate on a Panasonic CF-52 Toughbook.

hello
Many thanks for the answer ;)
Could you share the link where you found ista as I tried several but some are old, some contains malware and I have difficulties to find a reliable version…
Thanks ;)

Mine came on disc with the lead I bought, I can quite happily send you a disc if you pm me your address, it looks like it is freeware but being new on the forum not sure if I can put the files up for you to just download straight from a post, it loaded easily first time and also has several other programs to allow coding but not gone into that yet, it is supposed to work on the early L322 for some of the modules, someone more knowlegable than me will be able to confirm this or not.

Hello
just a little update, i'm still suffering with it aha
i've tried basic OBD reader, ICARSOFT, ISTA and none of them are working to reach out the ECM (all the other modules are working).
anyone has any idea on which connector that could be faulty (I've checked ECM relay, 30 A fuse in the engine fusebox....)

As you are getting no coms at all with anything your trying, have you checked the integrity of the communication line?? Just had a quick look on electric wiring diagram and it shows pin 9 on Diagnostic socket goes to pin 17 on the ecm, maybe worth checking for damage or corrosion etc just to completely rule out that for the possible reason. I would also be checking inside the ecm for signs of corrosion on the board or blown caps etc, for the time it takes to pull it and lift the lid off at least it rules that out as well and a blast with electrical cleaner may help. All long shots but at least it rules out possibilities and shortens the search. Dependent on your part number and software version I have spare ecm's I can post for you to try with pleasure but I realise you need this up and running without delay and post is not the most reliable in time frame just now.

i can communicate will all modules in the car except the engine module... and it's been the same with the three different diag tool that i've used ....
thanks for the advice of checking the line... i will spray everything with contact cleaner...
can you share the electric diagram you are talking about to help me to find the pin position ?

thanks

Just spraying with contact cleaner is unlikely to be enough if there is corrosion, a brush may be necessary. Aeroclene 50 is good.
