Morning all,

I am just about to replace my 2003 TD6 with a 2007 AJV8.

I've been told by various people to avoid using the electric handbrake as it can go wrong and be expensive to replace. Two questions:

1. Is there any maintenance/servicing that can be done to avoid it going wrong?

2. Can parking on a hill and relying on the gearbox to hold the car damage the gearbox/drivetrain/gearbox?

Thanks,

Tom

Using it keeps it working, not using it allows it to start seizing. Then when you need it.... Pop goes the ebrake!!
They are a wear and tear item and on a 13yr old car it's already done a good term of service. If it brakes' just repair it. We have these super toys and they require super money to fix. That's what makes them super if we keep them working as they should. ;)

Always apply the handbrake first on any automatic vehicle, some will roll slightly (forwards or back) if on an incline, dependant on the particular braking arrangement used...only once it has found it's 'resting' point should you engage Park.

It's also wise to to turn steering a little so in the event of handbrake failure it will wedge against the kerb rather than hurtling at speed towards any unwitting pedestrians.

I mean, I worry for the sort of folks that are now thinking... "I did not know that".
