This is a "Landie Specialist" shop here in Chch. They're selling a combo of a road legal 2001 V6 with overheated & knackered engine together with a non-legal (deregistered) 1998 L Series with a 'good'. I presume the idea is to put the (manual) L Series into the (auto) KV6 car.

Sounds like an awful lot of work to me!

Land Rover Freelander 2001 | Trade Me

Start price of $500 is £250.

If your local laws permit, it's possible. However you should keep in mind that the V6 uses CANBUS for things like the dashboard, ABS, gearbox and alarm system, whereas the L series Freelander doesn't use CANBUS. In effect, you would need to swap the engine, gearbox, IRD, wiring harness, dashboard and all the ECU's that plug into the harness. It's a huge amount of work for what is.

A wee project for you Grumpy! :D.What about that new motor for your L series motor with the funny noise?

Yeh, I am very tempted :) We'll have to see how much they go for. Good stock of parts for the L Series, a nice interior, roof rails - and sounds like a working IRD :)

A couple of working ABS modulators would be good to - I need 1 at the mo and mine appears to go through them every 2 years!

I'm not sure whether the wife will see adding another 2 'dead' Land Rovers to the garden as a good move! I'll have to see if I can get myself a 'dome' and compete with Cashels :)

I see someone has asked if he'd sell the diesel one by itself as a farm hack. Freelander would be perfect for that - but a 3 door.

From memory the ABS modulator on the V6 won't work on the L series. This is because the V6 is on the CANBUS. The L series doesn't use CANBUS.
The gear ratio on the V6 IRD is also different. In fact the IRD doesn't even look the same as the smaller engine IRDs. Very few of the components inside are the same.

LOL, Good luck with that one.

That would be virtually a complete reshell of the l series,

Engine, gearbox, wiring loom, dash, all control modules, more than a weekends work!
