Hello all.
I have 2000 L Series stock Freelander and I want to extract some more power from the engine. Recently I bought some used Rover 45 set of 4 injectors, they give some more 15 to 20 bar than the Freelander originals.
I have cleaned the injectors, tested the pressure and they were OK, once fitted on the engine, the car starts well but is very slugish reving up... Once I fit the original pilot injector, the engine revs beautifuly, fitted the Rover 45 pilot injector and slugish again, plugging in OBD diagnostic, gives intermitent error on MAF, with the original injector there are no errors at all. Did anyone already experience this?

Thanks in advance.

Hello guys

So I have been busy doing some mods on my Freelander L series. 2 days a go just changed the Fuel Injection Pump (FIP), the original is going to get an 11mm piston, in the meanwhile, the Freelander is every day use car so I have mounted a Rover 220 SDI FIP on it, the FIP was rebuild by me, it was all seized up, everything cleaned, lubricated, new seals, once mounted I had to ajust all the parameters, it is on a 2º-3º idle injection advance, 6mg/stroke diesel injection quantity, and a idle that varies from 782 rpm to 805 rpm, the motor was runing beautifuly for about 60 miles, after doing 60 miles on the road, the idle is inconsistent, unscrewed the injector fuel line and the 3rd and 4th cylinder don't seem to have enough pressure... Cold start is very difficult, and when it starts theres a massive cloud of smoke that smells a lot on diesel fuel. Could I have damage anything on the FIP when setting the parameters? But only fails after doing 60 miles?... Or the pump is not in such a good condition and only reveals itself after a few miles on the road?...

Hope to get some help, don't want to damage the engine due to bad fuel release on the cylinders...

Thanks

Hello you all

Been away from the forum for quite some time.
Just to assure you that the hybrid fuel injection pump works beautifully!
11 mm distribution head gives you lot of torque in low revs, it is a huge change in the hippo's behaviour, next step is going to be a remap to optimize even more, coolant fans will get new temperature working range, will activate 5ºC earlier.

For now, my hippo has:

11 mm hybrid fuel injection pump;
K&N air filter;
Silicone and aluminium intercooler hoses;
All round polybushes;
Rear diff mount polybushes;
Td4 front brake discs, cross drilled, Td4 calipers on EBC Green Stuff brake pads;
Later type Td4 IRD;
Pre facelift headlights and rear lights;
PowerfulUK all round light guards;
Jeep 15" alloys 7.0J ET32;
Td4 between front seats centre console;
1 din android head unit radio, sat nav and reverse camera;
Dog guard;
Dual air spring bonnet securing
Fully operational 4x4 VCU;
215/75 R15 Toyo Open Country A/T+ tires;
And so on...

Looking great. I love the three amigos symbols on the spare wheel cover. What is the head unit you've fitted? Is it any good?
The Android Head Unit is not state of the art, but does its purpose, got it from Aliexpress, I just did not sync it with my phone, it didn't kill the other sound during phone calls, but it works well, I run Waze satnav, listen to spotify, its allright.

Me and some friends are trying to develop affordable solutions to maintain the Freelander here in Portugal, specially the L Series.
It turns out it is a really great AWD SUV.

Great idea to work together to have options when maintaining the vehicles. There are niche companies in the UK that may be able to help with that, for example DMGRS are a great supplier of Rover related parts (eg engines) and the Freelander specific outfits may be able to adapt to ways that help you as a group.

My son is just about to go to Portgual, He's been in Europe for a couple of months and (sort of) finishes off with 10 days in Portugal. From there he's with family in the UK for 6 weeks before flying back home.

It is a very good idea, but Brexit forced us to seek other solutions due to import taxes, so we are developing some stuff here in Portugal.

Its not really Brexit. Maybe rules imposed by your or the European government.

Here in NZ its obviously never been part of the EU and we don't have import taxes. We just pay normal GST/VAT like we do on all purchases.

Mind you, I suppose the shipping fees are like import duties :D

Even with those "import duties" - its still way cheaper than paying silly NZ prices.

How are the gas bonnet struts? I have been looking at those for a long while now and really tempted to get them. Do they hold the bonnet nicely without drooping or bending? I got a cheap £35 pair for my Daily Nissan and they were completely Dog S***e

Bloke at work was trying to open the bonnet on an Iveco the other day.

He was struggling pulling the bonnet release handle to get the bonnet to open, couldn't get it to open.

So I says to him I'd have a go, for him to go to the front and pull it in case that helps. I couldn't actually see what he was doing over the bonnet, but I pulls the handle and it just released, dunno what his trouble was.

However, the twit thought he'd put all his might into trying to assist and had bent right down to get, in his thoughts, maximum leverage. When the bonnet released the springs throw it up a couple of inches... and near on broke his jaw!

I have no problem.
You can use these struts:
