Is the fuel pump on a 2000my L Series coded to the engine or can it just be swapped out?
There is a block at the back of the pump with wires connected to it, and I have been told that this is either the immobiliser or the advance retard solenoid.
Any info gratefully recieved.

The fuel pump is mechanical driven from the camshaft - so without being hooked up the the ignition/ECU you wouldn't be able to stop the engine. I presume the wires are simply there to enable/disable flow to the injectors.

I've obviously spent to much time under the bonnet of my Series III. Had a look at the Rave manual, and it looks like the ECD sends the following signals via those wires to the fuel pump...

1) Fuel shut off solenoid
2) Injection timing device
3) Fuel quantity servo - control actuator

But to answer your question, I can't see any reason why you can't switch fuel pumps between engines - but presumably they would need to have the same type of ECU - so a Maestro one might not run on a Freelander.

OK,
Thanks for your replies.
I have a replacement pump taken from an L series Freelander, but everyone I have asked about changing it seems to have a differing opinion of whether they are coded or not
My engine has a serious lack of power at about 2000rpm under load, so the thinking was change the pump and see if that's the problem, but then came to a halt because of the "coded" issue.

Cheers guys, I think I'll get it changed and suck it and see :)
