Treworgey 90: Who give you right to judge someone on base of what he is questioning? I need a car apparently for a long time and apparently I have TD4 but what I can do but you don't, is ability to think out of the box. I love to experiment on things you simply won't understand. Is this make me a tw@t? So be it. But... you just proved why we are so backed up with technology. Judge before you do, be resistant to things you not understand. People will always laugh at things they can't take on board. And I want two things: TRY to fix V6 problems and make it to 40MPG or more, with priority to first part. If I can fix cooling to the level of being more reliable with petrol only then I think I've reached partially what I want. At least I will try. Have a nice f***g day :doh: :D :cool:
 
Question: What is the most common problem with V6, can someone point out? and I talking about engine. Head Gasket Failure? any more?

I though I can have a conversation little more specific, more technical... but never mind, now I can see: The best way to solve problems is send away to the "others", problem is that the others will send you in the same place.. You came here asking for advice, and so the people here who KNOW EXACTLY what you are asking to be told, have shared with you their advice, usually based their bitter personal experiences. These people have spent time providing you with their best advice. You have then set about trying to prove them wrong, and to show how effing smart you are, by rubbishing their advice, but all you are really doing is PROVING to them that you have no idea about what you asked about in the first place! .

Here's my advice you young young man. Either (1) get humble, and take good advice when it is given, or (2) don't ask for advice, and go right ahead blindly and take your chances.

In the first case the listers will probably have saved you hundreds of pounds and God only knows what grief, whereas in the second case you can have all the fun and excitement of making new (only to you though) discoveries about the weaknesses and failings of the Hippo power-plants.

It's the way things work here. They saved me MOUNTAINS of money and grief when I joined up, by patiently assisting me with my TD5 injectors.
I in return am able to help younger listers with the older fashioned stuff.

You missing the point again. I'm not rubbishing anyone's advices, but for someone who calling me tw@t i have no respect. First, none of you gave me any information about thermostat housing and pipe work and cooling or whatsoever - any technical information. What I've got is tw@t, burger and god knows what. I'm not trying to be a smart azz, but I'm asking for information not advices. What I've got was "don't go that way" in a "funny" way. On the stupid question for you I've got Very stupid answer for me. My point is that I don't want to reinvent the wheel and I don't want to go blindly into the subject. Right? "The other could done it if that was a possible". So, I'm trying to find out WHAT THEY DID, to eliminate different ways.
Now, if I will fail and give up, you will have another ex V6 owner, but if somehow I can find why the things are happening, think about those V6 owners out there benefiting from it. If you don't want to help, point me out to someone who can give me (voluntary) informations I'm asking for. Don't blame me for being curious neither for trying to discover faults in KV6. Even the net is lacking of any information about this kind of "discoveries". I think I will have a fun.
PS. QED actually stopped working on all engines, not only K-series...
 
If you want a Freelander with a bit more oomph, then spend about £300 on your current TD4 as mentioned earlier on.

If you want to enter into a technical excersize with the KV6 then buy a wrecker for very little and spend thousands in development - if it were feasable, then there would already be loads of improvement details on here for an engine that is not exactly current.

JonFre: I have abuse in UK almost every single day. What makes me laugh is that people will not move their azz higher that they have to and prefer not to take any risks. Let the "other peeps" do the job and if they success they will take the credit too anyway. We are a one big and happy landrover's family. Isn't it? Right...

PS2. QED tuned K-series for few years, so somehow they ware happy to work on them.

PS3. In this case I will start from scratch. and I have few ideas to try, including thermal map of the engine. ;-)
 
I think yu are missing the point here - the TD4 is as powerful (slightly more torks) than the KV6. To make the KV6 anything half descent, yu will have to spend thousands of pounds to redesign it. By fitting a RoveRRon gizmo to yours it will be better tan the KV6 will fore less than a hundred. If you want performance than the 220Turbo engine will always outperform the KV6 and a lot cheaper. Fitting A V engine transversely is never a good idea - the rear bank invariably cooks at anything above low power levels. If you want to go ahead - then dont let us stop you - but lots have tried and decided it was throwing good money after bad.
 
I don't want to redesign the engine, but as I can see from coolant flow schematic on non NAS models there are too many branches and this cause flow drop, especially on the top of the engine (that what one bloke found: if you rearrange flow from IRD and heater you have heat in the cabin strait after 2-3 minutes not 20 as I have on my and others. You know exactly that most of the HGF on V6 are caused by coolant loss. Why we cannot fit simple early warning system where if coolant will drop pressure from stable 1bar you will know that. This can save azz of many V6. and this is not very expensive nor brainy to do it.
Did any one thought about making an air intake in the bonnet to help air flow for the rear banks? Landrover redesign front part because they found problem with cooling in early models V6. Just suggesting...

The main reason for HGF is cavitation within the cooling jacket caused by poor thermal conductivity, poor flow rate, poor system detection (temp sensor in return flow from rad, not exit temp from engine) and poor cooling.
It would be more correct to state "You know exactly that most of the coolant loss on V6 are caused by HGF ."
Now without wishing to repeat myself ad-nausiam - unless you wish to redesign the aluminium block, the water jacket within it, rotate the V6 so that it is-line, redesign the cooling system and the electronics that use these sensors, you are ****ing in the wind, to use an old technical term - now stop bashing yo head against the brick wall and use your undoubted talents to do something useful.
Design a kit to enable the easy change of either a K or KV engine to a 220 Turbo, either 2wd or 4wd, supply reconn 220 turbo lumps - and you will make a fortune - every petrol hippoo owner will come clamoring to your door.

now ENOUGH!!!

You do not need air cooling on the rear cylinders if the water cooling system is properly designed and the water flow is not interrupted.
The rear cylinders on in line v8's don't need air cooling and they are well blanked off from air flow.
I won't bother to mention the millions of stationary engines in all their applications!
 
Last info from QED (and I did ask them precisely): "We offer a Remote thermostat housing for the 4 cyl engine but we never had a cooling problem with the V6. We stopped working with the engine because there was so little interest in it." Cavity here cavity there... Non NAS KV6 has so many small branches from branches in the pipe work... I'm pretty sure, this is the main problem, apart of sh**ty water pump and plastic thermostat.
JonFre: Air Cooling... It's not efficient even on my PC. Just to wind them up ;-)))) It works ;-)))
