Looking at above tyres for 300 disco ( 235.85 16 ) Anyone use them ,road noise good or bad. Would like to know what you think:)

Haven't tried them myself but I've seen several posts suggesting Sahara's aren't as good in mud as you might think, and saying Special Tracks are better.

I didnt get on woth Saharas...Special Tracks great in mud but not sure about road noise.
Im on Dakars, road noise minimal & very impressed off road...they are copies of BFG Muds...for tight arses like me!

I have KL 71's and are great on mud and also on the road(up to 90 mph).
There are not many things in common between "Sahara" name and British climate and soil isn't it?
The best on mud are "special track" but on the road are a pain.

I've got a mate who's got the kumho's and he doesn't rate them. Not great in the mud and have knocked 5 mpg of he's truck. Go for bfg MUDs. Cost more but worth it.

Recently got some Saharas and although I havent given them a proper test off road they have done a couple of easy lanes, snow etc. and have held up well so far. Road noise isnt bad and oddly I would say they feel better than my old michelin road tyres in the wet but that could also be moving from 205/16 to 235/16 sizes too :)

Are you planning or have you modified the arches to take the tyre size? 235/85 16 wont fit under standard arches.

Thank you for your replys ,will take a look at dakars. disco has standard arches on plus road 235 16 . I have heard that 205 16 will better MPG .

I have Saharas and I'd agree, they're good but not amazing in mud. I also don't like the handling on the road, it's very vague. There's a wee bit of road noise but it's not too bad.

The reduction in size of tyre will make very little difference in mpg - it's much more about the type of tyre ie road, at, mud full mud, extreme mud, etc.

Changing to a smaller tyre will however increase instability on corners with the car.

I changed to 205/80/16 on my previous Disco, Continental road tyres bought because they were cheap and absolutely CRÄP !!! Dangerously unstable. I had a couple of 180° spins with them and decided bollôcks to the money and changed them for BFG AT's of 235/70/16 and all was perfect handling again.

Seriously, don't reduce the tyre size just to get better mpg - you'll crash !!!!!!!
