Hi All
Need a bit of Landy Zone therapy with any thoughts / suggestions you might have.
TD5 90 - Short Wheel Base / 2003
Just came back from service and MOT last week and rather a large bill including new rear crossmember.
Today as I was driving, coming to a halt at the traffic lights and having just dipped the clutch into neutral - ( coasting ) at no more than 5/6 mph, I noticed what sounded like a hammer hitting a steel bar. ( the only way I can describe it ). Didn’t know if it was coming from mine so left it and didn’t think too much more about it.
Tonight same thing again, coming to a stop, no more than 5mph, slowing right down and you can hear this “clunking” noise coming from the back somewhere. Sounds like it’s over my left shoulder in that corner - near side where the exhaust is.
My TD5 was serious underpowered prior to it going in for work recently - they replaced the MAF sensor - and the power since getting it back has been fantastic. However, I assume it may be that the extra burst of power and speed I have been enjoying has shaken something loose or disturbed something and caused the issue.
The noise is very much a clunking / knocking noise. More of a knock thinking about it. Almost like something is hitting against something on rotation of the wheels when coming to a stop.
At higher speeds - 20 / 30 and driving normally you don’t hear it at all. It’s only in the less than 8mph zone coming down a stop, do you hear it knocking away from the rear.
Any thoughts / suggestions just to put my mind at ease for now would be gratefully appreciated. The bill for the crossmember and some other bits im going to be feeling the effects of for a little while as it broke the Defender Piggy Bank, and just hoping it nothing too bad!
Thanks everyone and hope you’re all doing well!
