Evening everyone, I've had a knocking from the rear drivers side wheel/suspension for a while.. And surprisingly, ignoring it hasn't made it any better?! It happens whenever I turn right and unload that rear wheel, gives me a rapid knocking.. I've changed the anti roll bar links as they needed doing anyway, so not that. I'm not sure if the Watts linkage could give me that symptom.. But it "looks" ok, I've tried rocking the wheel 12&6 / 3&9.. But don't seem to have any movement from the bearing. I can't see any shiny metal patches on any of the joints or any obviously worn bushes.. Guess it could be something in the driveshaft?.. It has to be one of these, anyone had the same? Or votes for the most likely? I'm still leaning towards the wheel bearing, but if anyone could give me some tips on how to be sure, I'd appreciate it.. Just jacking it up and rattling the wheel hasn't shown anything obvious. Thanks all!

Shock absorber come adrift.
 
Those are typical symptoms of the Watts linkage on its way out. Try rocking the vehicle vertically and sideways by pressing on the rear bumper and you can usually hear the knocking if you have excessive wear and tear on the linkage.
 
I had that, it had ripped the R/H ARB mount off the chassis.

Check ARB carefully, mounts, brackets and droplinks.
 
I too had this.
Not immediately obvious as the shock absorber top bolt had come out, but the shock stayed in place when the vehicle was at a standstill.
It takes seconds. Grab the top of the shock and pull it downwards, if it moves look at the top of it.
If it's the hub you would be extremely likely to have the three amigos up, and it would whine or rumble a lot.
It doesn't sound like the ARB as you say you have checked it.
Best of luck if it is the Watts linkage. ;)
 
Thanks for this chaps.. I'll get out and have a look when it stops raining! Appreciate the process for checking the watts linkage, and I will have a better look around the arb mountings.. but definitely going to start with the shock, that hadn't even occurred to me, thanks Stanleysteamer and everyone else.. Much appreciated as always!
 
Knocking's fixed (ish).. Well I think so..
Went through all bushes, arb & links, shocks, watts, hub.. Couldn't find any problems, one of the 1st things I did was to change the diff oil, in case what I was hearing was driveshafts not correctly lubed.. But no immediate change. When that didn't work I change my attention to an oil leak, which meant the car immobile on the drive for a week while I dismantled bits and ordered parts..

Once I'd finished with the leak, I took her for a test drive.. No leak, great! .. and no knocking either?! It hadn't been up on ramps and since changing the diff oil, I'd been nowhere near the rear end.

I'm assuming the diff oil just needed to soak in properly coat all the gears etc.. And I shouldn't have been expecting an immediate fix? But after months of that knocking, it's now gone and running as quiet as it ever had done.
