Hi everyone in Landrover land. Can anyone give me a clue as to the very loud knock in getting under my Discovery 2. It happens when im speeding up or slowing down suddenly or or going round a bend and i can feel it through the floor. Whats more it only happens in the wet !!! Iv checked all the usual things as best as i can lying on my back on the driveway and everything seems ok. Hope someone can help me as its driving me nuts!!!

I had the same problem last week.

Turned out to be some granny i had inadvertantly run down banging her walking stick on my chasis.

Seriously though no idea but hope somebody can help.

Colin, what sort of knock is it? does it coincide with wheel or propshaft RPM or does it only knock the once as you accelerate or decelerate in which case it could be a broken rubber mount on gearbox or associated drive train.

Thanks donboon, the knock is once as i accelerate or decelerate so i will check gearbox mounts this weekend if my fllippin bad back will let me crawl under the disco.

you will be suprised how willing some are to get stuck in, i have my own garage in liverpool and some girl i was going out with wanted to do a days work there and wore high heals and overalls, talk about a marketing idea! lol

You might be supprised and find that one of the spiders on the prop shaft has gone and it is moving around in the joint, my friend had the same, cost him £250 for a new front prop shaft, so get it checked out before it does break.

£200 for propshaft,
£40 for 'box sump pan.
Torn calf muscle from pushing car to safety with broken prop slamming against all in its vicinty.

"I'll check that knocking noise tomorrow" :doh:

Hopes its something easy to fix!

colin, if your disco has ACE, check the nearside front antiroll bar bush (just under the chassis behind the front valance), they tend to wear and give out a knock through the chassis on cornering.

they are **** easy to replace, captive only by a single bolt, and only cost about a fiver. washing up liquid will help you get a new one in place!
