Anyone else fed up with playing "Knock, Knock who's there?" with their freelander?

Ever since I got my Freelander, something underneath has been knocking. If I fix it or get it fixed, something else will start knocking, usually within a week or two! It's starting to get on my tits now!

Is it just me?

No. Me too. Faults all the time, which proves it’s a real land rover.

Could yer problem be an angry midget wiff a hammer?

It will just be your IRD on its way out, or the rear diff breaking a tooth per knock.

If you have the petrol versions, I would sell/burn it ASAP.:D

Agreed, i have a clunking that sounds like it's coming from the steering rack when going over potholes/bumps when i have a bit of steering lock on, any thoughts?

Who's there?
Dwain.
Dwain who?
Dwain the baffwater, I'm dwowning.....

Sorry, it was just on the film I was watching.....

I know where the knocking is coming from on mine.At least 2 of the bolts are missing from the aluminium ird right hand bracket.

You will have to get on your back and under it and check whats loose.

Noises from the steering rack on mine turned out to be a combination of knackered drop links and track rod end ball joints. The latter were really shagged when I replaced them after the early 2010 pothole season. Made a world of difference.

I asked my garage to check the noise when it was serviced in jan and they said the drop links were fine, I think I'll get them done and see what happens, or is it something I can do myself????

Agreed - dead easy job. Have a squint at the ball joints on the end of the track rods though while you're in that vicinity. If you see any signs of leaking grease or a split in the rubber, replace the joint. Actually, do the pair. You can pretty much guarantee that if one has gone the other won't be far behind.

This is also an easy, cheap job. Just remember to count the number of turns when you unscrew each ball joint from the track otherwise your tracking will be well out when you put the new ones on :)

Yeah, sorry for hijacking this thread too, but it could be relevant.
