Hello again another problem for you guys...... just been diagnosed as a potential crankshaft failure as I have a small knocking sound from what appears to be in the middle of the engine.

107k DSE auto

Has anyone else had this and have found it out to be something different or any other suggestion?

Im as you can imagine devastated:eek: :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

i doubt its the crank, if it was it wouldn't be a small knock.

Have you ever run it low on oil? If so then it could be piston/bore wear, I've seen this before where the engine was run very low on oil causing the spray jets in the bore not to spray (usually when cornering), this will overheat the piston(s) causing expansion and then scuff the bore.

I've only ever seen one crank failure, this again was caused by low oil, the oil cooler pipes failed, ran out of oil and the customer ignored the oil light and drove it to destruction.

Hi...got the same knocking/tapping on my '95 dt...been doing it for the
last 6000 miles...my local mechanic doesnt know the answer without an
engine strip down. If it was big ends or mains the engine would have
blown up in a short time. Have changed camshaft and tappets. my theory
is a stretched bottom timing chain or damaged timing gear may be allowing
a piston to touch a valve....would be interested to know of your outcome!
