Garage says mine has gone hence why I can't get the RR going when it's cold, and that it's £125 and rare as rocking horse poo. I have no idea exactly what it is and googling knife injector doesn't help. What else is this bit of kit called or what exactly does it do ?

TIA

Simon

you just said he defiantly said it's the knife injector - now you've edited yer post to say he might have said knife sensor

groan .....

I thought I was sure, but living on next to no sleep for months on end doesn't make for good memory. I decided to entertain the possibility I had got it muddled.

To be clear whatever it is that has failed is causing the engine to be over fuelled, and so it simply floods. It has been disconnected and now the engine runs ok, but won't run when it's not warm. Which is pretty useless whenI need to get to work and it's below zero.

Well there ain't a lot to go on here - what engine, what year, which injection system??

As a pure guess, could he have said it was the NINTH INJECTOR? In which case, you probably have a 3.5 running flapper injection. That being the case either the injector was leaking or the thermo time switch has gone up the spout. Other things to check might be coolant thermistor and base CO trim.

Without a bit more info can't suggest anything else and of course I could be completely wrong.

Ah Kev thank you, you could be right on that, I'm a bit mutton so I could have misheard LOL. Yes it's a 3.5 I (listed on profile).

I'm good at guessing games!!

I'm pretty sure if you do a search for starting problems in the Range Rover and/or V8 sections you'll find all the info you need. If you refine your search to include either cold start injector or 9th injector you'll get the low down on what's what. If not give some more detail about any running and/or starting gremlins and what happens when it starts to play up and I'm sure the peeps in here can guide you.

Cheers Kev, good guess! I feel sheepish now. Pretty sure the garage guy is right, it's just my hearing that's not. We've already replaced the HT leads and distributor cap, and when warm the thing runs really nicely - yesterday did 20 miles without problems. This morning was 2 hours late to work as I had to wait for the day to warm up enough for the RR to stay running.

I'll go and check the other sections as you suggest.

can i offer a tip, your tired and hard of hearing, why not ask him to write it down next time?????:crazy::crazy::behindsofa:

Yes thanks, I understand the problem better now.

Luckily the weather's been warmer so I've been able to start the thing relatively easily this week. To be honest looking at the cost of repair it's probably not worth it as I've got to sell all my cars in the next few months.

Leaving old Blighty for a bit so can't keep them, but who knows might be able to get something with a V8 in my new home :), sadly all Land Rovers are really overpriced there, and Defenders rarer than rocking horse poo. :(

isnt the knife injector positioned behind the service desk at your local main stealers :hysterically_laughi
