Hell Gents,
Does anyone know if the kick own on a 1996 P38 dse can be reprogrammed not to kick down above 65MPH - or when in Cruise - mine will kick down even at 80 in cruise if I hit a hill,I would rather the bloody thing slow down a couple of klicks, but no she kicks down and screams its tits off for a couple of hundred yards and then changes back up to where it was before.

One of the downfalls of a rather antiquated system I'm afraid. I lifted the following from Ashcroft Transmissions web site

-
"If the vehicle is a Disco I or Range Rover Classic you may want to adjust the kickdown cable if you want to fine tune the shift pattern, the looser the cable the softer and earlier the shifts, the tighter the cable, the harder and later the shifts."

May be some help...?

Not much help considering the DSE has electronic kick down and is a very modern system. Unlike the V8s that still use a cable.

If you are a dead smart programmer and fully understand the BMW/Bosch engine ECU, no doubt it can be re-programmed.
