Somebody pinched my wife's purse when she was shopping...Defender keys were in it plus her cards. Cards cancelled (no spend fortunately) but have to change all locks on Defender, plus immobiliser and remotes. Just in case they find where we live...can't take the chance. Defender is at dealer's for safe keeping until locks changed. Cost is £900....damn.

holeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy crap... that is insane! guess its the alarm/immobiliser thats the biggest cost. new barrels are cheap enough even for a 110sw. Is there much chance of them finding where you live?

Even the alarm fobs are only about £150 a pair from a locksmith and inc being programmed around this neck of the woods.

It's described as a "lock set". All locks plus immobiliser and 2 remotes. I'm assuming a few hours labour to fit them at the dealer rate of £90 per hour.....have just found that insurance will pay out for this.
Little chance of them finding our address but would you take the chance? Anyway now I've told insurance they have demanded locks change or they won't cover it for theft.

That wuz lucky.

An ignition barrel and lock is only about £30 a set of 3 door locks is about £15. 2x Fobs= £150 total £195

£900 is extorsion. There is no way it takes 7.5-8 hours to cahnge 3 locks and programme 2 remotes.

That's why I never use the main dealer unless somebody else is paying! They wanted £499 to do a 12k service and my local LR independent charged me £190.

ffs now your being ripped off

This quote was a mistake! I just collected the Defender and the bill was £370, plus £15 for a fuel filler cap from the spares dept. I just paid it without saying anything and walked out. I got in the vehicle but then thought "I must ask why I was quoted £900". The girl in service didn't remember giving me the quote...although it was her.
I'm not complaining!

That sounds pretty fair from a main dealer.

we had our disco2 done last year, complete lock set and 2 fobs, alarm and ecu recoded ...total cost 900 notes and that was from a local LR independent.
we were lucky as we had our insurance doc and spare key stolen from our house and the gits turned up at night and tryed to take the disco. (wife spotted the lights flash as she made a cup of tea) my boss let me store it in our warehouse untill it was sorted.

the police said we were lucky as most key thefts from home are to order and then they wait untill you go shopping and just take the car when you leave it.

I have a Renault van and last year I had to order 2 new remote keys (as both were worn out). The cost was £300. A hundred each for the key fobs and another hundred for "re-coding".
